2 TOP4 rated teams down, 1 more to go

Watching Game 2, knowing EG won, was weird. From about 30 minutes on, it looked like EG was going to lose. Alchemist wasn't snowballing too hard and RTZ clearly isn't comfortable on Mirana and VP was being very efficient on the map. Still, late-game Blademail for the win, haha.

EG's vision game got a whole lot better, the drafting was really well-prepared in game 1. Game 2, VP came back really strong and probably takes that game about 60% of the time. But some really clutch buybacks and the high-ground holds. Game 2 was awesome.

EG also seemed simply more experienced with their strategy
VP picked a pocket strat and their lategame execution just couldn't compete, especially Noone looked like he doesn't have Sniper drilled enough

Wondering what Cr1t- must be thinking.
I hope they don't split because of this result. Lots of scope for improvement, they can still be a very good team.

EG weren't exactly the picture of consistency this tournament. As great as the VP series was, the OG series was rancid.

I feel they are still very similar to old EG, they always place well and completely suck against illusion heroes.
Hopefully they will strive in the new patch.

I may be wrong but I think it was because of PPD that EG had so many roster changes last year (not that I am judging it was good or bad decision) whatever his reasons were. He was the decision maker & everyone else had almost no say.
This time, it's only young guns & may be Fear with some influence. It will be interesting how they go forward after this but staying together is still the best option for everyone.
I hope Fear understand the potential in this team & convinces everyone to stay.

OG exposed how much EG telegraphs their future picks in the second ban phase. I'm convinced the TB ban in Game 2 put them at a huge disadvantage that they never recovered from.

I'm still ok with a top 4 placement, ppd didn't win them all either. In addition it was single elimination so who knows how they would have done in a double elimination bracket, even though with their groupstage results they would have strated in the lower bracket anyway. I mean EG fans are pretty spoiled in terms of results, with the exception of manila EG have placed in the top 3 of every valve tournament since TI4. I just hope they stay together but I'm not too worried this time, the roster has so much potential and from the true sight episodes they seem to get along pretty well.

This was Cr1t's first major drafting. Drafting was going to be EG's problem until Cr1t simply had more experience. We saw this with DC last year. Until the TI6 qualifiers, they couldn't ban against non-NA competition for the life of themselves. Improving their drafting and a good meta-shift in their favor and they take 2nd at TI.

At the same time, Fly has won 2 Majors (and is now in a 3rd Final) as captain. He's currently the best drafter on an active roster. No shame in getting exposed. It's really hard, especially with that much money on the line. Though the worrying part is that the true hallmark of ppd drafting is a mid-game plan, but it's regularly not there for the current EG. Hopefully, that'll come with experience.

Lastly, Jerax is probably the best player in the world at the Major. That matters, a lot.

(There's a funny part that OG pretty much beat EG with the most classic ppd-lead approach: have a specific mid-game timing and hit the team fight like a sledgehammer.)

I actually thought the second Ursa came out "switch the lanes pick OD" and when a noob like me can instantly figure out crit should have too. But he's no PPD, he also took time to come online with drafts
