We are now in the race to the bottom phase of casting, where only desperate 20 year olds will power the industry with passion and a lack of context/experience. Strangely, Moxxi is one of the better up and comers. Also there's breaky who is literally the opposite of what you described - I think he lost all his passion in HoN, but he has more experience than anyone but Tobi, and I think is mostly in the industry because he knows nothing else lol. When I say experience, I mean the kind where they all don't under cut each other until no one makes money. Which is pretty great for Valve.

Not making it less depressing there p6.
Here's hoping BTS can spearhead the application of that context/experience and make sure talent is getting what it needs to survive.
And they don't just fall prey to the trap themselves to make bank.

I just spent like an hour chasing down a single bug for my tome add-on, after getting pretty much all the coding done aside from it (it was a formatting issue on text. My biggest bane...)

why isnt status resistance working in demo ?

I've worked in my old flat for a couple of hours yesterday. God a bad headache from the shitty air. It's really turned for the worse. Good thing we're moving out the stuff next week..

You are looking it from the wrong side tho p6
We will have more and more ex pro players going for a caster career.

I don't think much has changed as far as casting goes. It doesn't seem possible for that many people to make significant money from casting. Events only hire a certain number of people, and not having any individual person is unlikely to impact the viewer numbers that much. To me it seems pretty understandable that you would at some point want to do something else even if you still like the game and everything that surrounds it.
Also in sports broadcasts there often are people who just pop in every once in a while but they aren't doing it as a living. There are some sports or leagues that have regular enough broadcasts to make it viable as a profession, but it's by no means all of them.

We will have more and more ex pro players going for a caster career. Assuming they want to continue with DotA at all when they're done playing though. I can't imagine it'd feel good to cast a tournament for someone who's used to playing in them, especially when there's a lot of money in DotA2 still.
Although they may retire for other reasons, on the other hand.
|
That's the thing, at some point you retire and if the scene keeps growing i don't see players like Fear, Dendi, Puppey, Xiao8, etc...getting peanuts to cast tournaments and games
After all, they move way more people than anyone, same with sports, top players get contracts with tv because personalities alone, of course long way to go, but i believe that's where the scene should be moving, it would only make everything better
I mean, we have Nahaz. Can't get worse at least

In general I believe that companies like Valve that run their esports on a contract basis lack long term viability to casters/players. The amount of travel and money involved is great for someone starting out, but quickly becomes limiting. Some people pointed out that a caster can make like 30-40K a year, but that is pre-healthcare. I know people like to poo poo on Riot/Blizzard, but their people are full time employees and they don’t require everyone to fly all over creation to play their matches.
And don’t get me wrong, I enjoy dota and think some people make it work. But I think we are always going to see people we like dropping out because it is just to risky to make long term plans with that job.

Are StarCraft casters/personalities actually "full-time" with Blizzard, or with their respective organizations?

Not starcraft no, but OWL employees are

Miracle streaming, happens once a year, if that much.

Siege Liquid team is brazilian
HUEHUEHUE

Are teams region-locked? Be interesting if they had to play on NA instead of the Liquid home in EU.

I've never played Siege, but watched quite a bit of it. I always felt it had the competitive legs of a CS:GO, but maybe not the following. And will likely be just as weird to spectate.
|
I could probably just find it online, but it's not a straight 5v5 deathmatch, is it? Felt like there was a lot more happening but I've never played it.
Trails of Cold Steel 2 is out on Steam. It's gonna be great, I just know it! Although it does leave the question: any announcements about 3/4?

It is objective driven, just like CS. There are bomb missions and hostage missions. But the bomb is the "diffuser" that disarms the bomb the terrorist are supposed to protect. But it functions the same way. The difference is that the bomb/hostage start in different locations on each round.
