It's the same friend that plays in their "mobile division". I have no idea why they made a huge splash with it and it was funny seeing people reporting on it as if it was actually a thing.

Stuff like TF2 bots, sure. But cheating absolutelly not. Cheating doesn't increase your drop rate. Games with cheating problems are games where it is easy to cheat, plain and simple. FPS are ussually like that wether it has a market place or not. Cheating has always been a huge deal in CS, it was a big deal in WC3 Dota, plenty of MMOs, Diablo 2, pretty much any kind of game.

I agree that the steam marketplace really isn't driving cheating in pubg in any meaningful way. The problem is basically free accounts in chinese netcafes and the hilariously easy to bypass anticheat stuff. There's also the part where you have 99 other enemies who could be cheating in pubg, so a 1% cheater rate means 1 cheater per game, whereas a 1% cheater rate in games like csgo means 1 in 10 games is ruined by cheaters.

Still, if you are going to cheat it has nothing to do with farming crates. There are far more efficient ways to cheat the system than installing a wallhack and actually playing the game.

These folks are not rational actors and might just see the potential to make money as an added bonus.

Looks like you'd have to sell about 70 crates to earn back the game, and then you start getting profit. Although it may work differently from how I think it does. Yeah but crates are much more valuable on like release day, plus you get like 2-4 a week playing very casually, up to around 7 if you play a ton. So it doesn't take that long to make your money back. Plus it's apparently much much cheaper to buy in china. Market forces and all that. It's still not a serious money making endeavour unless you engage in skin prospecting (see: sirjolt lol)

I think they are farming specific rare drops that sell on the market place. That is my understanding. It could all be bullshit. But I also though skin gambling in CS:GO was super stupid and bitcoin is set to overtake housing in energy use in Iceland. This future is super stupid, so PUBG crate farmers seems just dumb enough.
