I think someone actually made a really good post on reddit about Spec Ops: "SPOILERS Just imagine if this were done in any other medium. A retelling of Heart of Darkness through the spectrum of modern warfare thirty years after one of the most iconic films in the history of cinema did the exact same thing which adds nothing to the material except a beyond-gimmicky ending which completely misses the point of the material. This game ends with the equivalent of Marlow/Willard looking in a mirror and realizing that they were Kurtz all along. It would not be possible to come up with a dumber take on this material if you tried. If this were a film, it'd be cheap direct-to-video trash with the name Apocalypse Now II: Desert of Darkness slapped on starring Billy Zane and Jake Busey.
