All, all the VR and AR stuff coming out of E3 sounds both insane and like non-sense. People are building some wild tech. And apparently, the dream of us being a jet pilot in VR might lead to use throwing up a lot.

I don't think this or next gen will nail VR, the gen after that however is where i see VR becoming accessible and well integrated into games.

Do pilots throw up a lot when they're starting to fly in real life, or is the physical stimulation from the plane enough to help prevent that?

I feel like VR flying wouldn't give me the physical feedback I'd want with the visuals being what they are.

I mean vr jet piloting is always going to pale significantly next to the real thing where you have to wear a pressure suit to force the blood back into your head when pulling 5 Gs or more. That's the kind of thing thats a bit harder to simulate.

VR is going to need its own games. Both the developers of Morpheus and Oculus were asked by Giant Bomb about putting the new Mirror's Edge in VR and they both side it wouldn't be great. The system messes with your perception of balance and anything that moves that fast can make people super sick. One of them was talking about getting quake to work on it and the jump pads being a real bad time. They are going to need learn game design from the ground up for VR.

Yes, if they do enough barrel rolls, they can make themselves sick just like you can spinning around in one spot. You spin the horizon in a VR fight sim enough and you'll puke. The Morpheus dev said "Your inner ear still thinks the ground is the ground. There is no software solution for that."

I imagine you would need a harness or something that would at least to some extent simulate the jumps and g-force shifts so that your brain doesn't make you puke your guts out after 5 minutes. Or make it some sort of enhanced reality rather that full VR.

Thats the thing, they are finding out that sort of stuff needs to be a lot slower than we are used in games. The design mantra right now seems to be "don't do anything you wouldn't be confirmation doing for real." Like don't have people going 90 MPG and jumping because they will lose it.

One developer made a demo where someone was tied to a chair and being threatened with a blow torch and people are talking about folks getting real pale and breaking out in cold sweats because of it. VR is really weird and messes with your brain at some low level wiring, like fight or flight. People were talking about horror games being amazing last year, but now they are really concerned they might be to much for most people.
