Disagree with 1 being a lot better. Dark Souls 2 lacked the story but the actual gameplay was sooooooooo much better. PvP was actually bearable to play and was the only reason I was playing it recently.

Everyone I talked with said Dark Souls 2's PvP was ass, granted, that's mostly the really hardcore PvP'ers.
I actually never got that far in 2 just because the game didn't grab me, it lacked the atmosphere of the first game.

Yeah, I played DS one for the world and story. The arcs of characters in the world and how you could piece their story together was what made it interesting. The fact that every boss had a back story and motivation behind how they got to where they are was what kept me interested. And on of the bosses/characters were motivated by malice was also critical. The whole game just had this feel that everyone refused to accept their fate.
The bosses in DS2 felt empty and without much character. And there were so many it felt just....blah.

There several kinds of "hardcore gamers". You don't spend thousands of dollars on a PC and dozens of hours setting things up and downloading mods so that Skyrim looks pretty because only gameplay matters. 30 FPS shit graphics console game is a pretty standard PCMasterRace thing to say. Some of them may also be part of the crowd that wastes hundreds of hours in Dwarf Fortress, but even that doesn't really kill the idea that some games would be much better if they weren't limited by console hardware. A lot of it is also just a reaction from years of shitty ports.

Dunno man, I am genereally not interested in all those games. But when somebody of my friends buy them and actually complain then I have to chuckle. If the devs do a shitty port with horrible menues and fuzzy controls. When the only "graphic settings" the game offers to you are the resolution and a "high - low" switch and it still has absurd hardware requirements despite being 30fps, I wont even consider buying it in a steam sale for two bucks. A shitty technical basis like that always scares me off.
That being said: I WANT THE WITCHER 3 AND I WANT IT NAO! Or maybe I just wait for the enhanced edition like I did with the previous two games.

They can delay that game as much as they want. We have had to many broken games and I would prefer this one just fucking work.

Like always in game (or even software) development the delays are most likely just to minimize the damage done to the games reputation. My bet is that it will be a fucking mess at release and we get a 2gb patch within a week. And the enhanced editions wernt only engine work and bug fixing. They actually improved some of the stuff the got feedback for by the players.

You underestimate the ability of a playerbase to break a game.
Also, am I the only one who never got into Witcher? The story was interesting, but the combat didn't grab me, and in a game like Witcher, if the combat isn't enjoyable, I can't force myself to play it.

I am sure a lot of their polish time is getting that thing to run on both PS4 and Xbox 1 at some reasonable rate. The vast majority of optimization is done at the very end of production and the more time they have to test and refine, the better.
I'll just keep packing money away from a PS4.

The combat was not the reason I played that game. Witch 2 was really good for combat and challenging, but no the reason I came to the show.

I can understand why people dislike the combat but I found it engaging when you have to keep rhythm. Adding in signs and potions which are toxic add more complexity. The first two chapters are really slow and take some willpower to truck through, but once you get to chapters 3-5 it is all worth it.

You mean the german Gamestar? They have been treating CDProject with love after they fucked up their test of the first game so hard. Gave it like 75% or and their forums were filled with complaints. And he still didnt play the complete map with complete quests and stuff. In such a huge hame there will aways be some critical bugs. But as a matter of fact 100,000 people buying the game and playing it for a day is 100x the game time (and indirectly: bug testing) CDProject can do before release. I just learned to not get my hopes up. Especially with so few single player games I like I cant risk being upset about fuck ups.

I dropped Witcher when I got to that fucking horrible swamp area, then I picked it up again later and pretty much marathoned through the entire game and really enjoyed it.
|
im hyped for witcher 3 because of the trailers and some game dev videos i saw but at the same time skeptical because I actually thought the controls/combat of witcher 2 sucked ass. I think i abandoned the game in about 2 hours.
|
I am 100% the other way. I fucking hated combat in witcher 1 and witcher 2 made it make way more sense. The roll was OP as fuck and blocking could have been better, for sure. But as a whole the combat felt like how I wanted witcher 1 combat to feel.
|
can i play witcher 2 wihtout playing witcher 1, or do i need to play witcher 1 to get witcher 2
|
Witcher 3's combat is said to be a fast paced Dark Souls except no rolling. You do a lot more actual footwork dodging and pirouetting which is closer to the novels.
On March 24 2015 01:39 Comeh wrote: can i play witcher 2 wihtout playing witcher 1, or do i need to play witcher 1 to get witcher 2 Witcher 1 is pretty independent of the other games in the series so you don't have to play it to understand Witcher 2. What I believe is that Witcher 1 is made to introduce non-readers to the series so they compiled elements from the books to introduce them without needing to read them and hardly reference it in Witcher 2. For good measure Witcher 3 will allow you to continue a save file from Witcher 2 but not from Witcher 1 directly because it is so independent and of no consequence to Witcher 3.
