im watching Handball Euros. No crowd is harsh for these high action sports.
first two songs that were played on the broadcast were 00s classics Safri Duo - played a live Darude - Sandstorm.
Its super funny to me how some events seem to be 10-20 years behind the curve in music selection. imo thats sports events and amusement parks in particular.
also food poisoning sucks.

Get well soon!

I'm usually around quite often to read this thread and a few others on TL, so if anyone has a suggestion or something they want added literally just ask and I can probably help out. Unfortunately some stuff might require R1CH's help (like adding flairs/heroes), but I can still do most things with my admin tools.
edit: Also Sn0 are you up to date on WoT? Curious what you thought of EP 8... Just watched ep 8 last night. Honestly, I think I just expected too much. Its probably fine TV it's just not the Wheel of Time as I envisaged it. I'll watch S2 etc i'm just not as excited as I hoped i'd be. Despite reading the series multiple times, I wouldn't consider myself a crazy book purist that expected/needed an exact adaptation. I was mostly fine going in knowing some things would be changed to make everything fit in an 8 episode season. Unfortunately I think they changed too much, and some of the changes are so integral to the overall story that it just doesn't feel like WoT to me anymore. I was kind of on the fence for a bit, but EP 8 was just a big pile of "why?" for me. Also the quality just isn't there either when comparing it with other good fantasy shows. GoT is obviously a fairly high standard to reach, but I at least hoped it would have Witcher levels of production value (it definitely does not). I'll give S2 a fair shot as I can at least sympathize with them losing Barney Harris before shooting EP 7/8, and dealing with a long covid shutdown after filming the first 6. I don't think those are good excuses for poor writing, but at least the production might be better next season. TLDR: I sad. Personally I really liked ep. 2-6 and I thought they did a solid job with the main characters. Nyn is a massive Mary Sue now and I dislike the Perrin stuff but it feels like everyone is there and that's great to see. I also like that they resisted chasing the GoT tits and gore style and kept it a bit more PG and hopeful. I think that's the right tone for Jordan's world. I really hated 8, though. I'm no book purist either, they have to get hundreds of hours of read-time into like 60h of TV, they're going to need to cut whole books and like half the secondary characters and that's fine. It just feels like the new writing is super uneven and it sucks. I was fairly optimistic after EPs 2-4 and 6. EP 1 had a lot of promising things too, although it obviously suffered due to not being a 2 hour premier. I guess 5 was fine, but I don't think dedicating that much of the EP to a character that only exists in New Spring was the best choice. I don't even want to talk about how much of a fumble EP 8 was anymore. The more I think about it the more disappointed I become Nyn stuff in EP 3 (or was it 4?) was cool imo. Getting mad and doing incredible things with the One Power is very much in line with her character in the books, although it doesn't happen this early of course. Perrin has been absolutely neutered so far. I legit can't tell if the actor is one dimensional or if the writing is just too poor for him to shine as an actor. Also I have to say I loved how they introduced the Logain stuff this early. + Show Spoiler +There's a few really nice touches; I thought "you don't listen to the wind, the wind listens to you" was dead-on and I'm pretty sure that's a new line, and I didn't actually mind the remixed confrontation at the Eye.
At the same time, there's a lot of telling instead of showing, new fridge logic everywhere, and we've had, what, 10+ fakeout deaths in one season? It's such a lazy way to build cheap tension and this is not an anyone-can-die series to begin with. It's going to be farcical if most of the main characters are still there multiple seasons later and they've all fake-died half a dozen times each. + Show Spoiler +Yea the new Eye confrontation was acceptable. I definitely wish Rand got his Tarwin's Gap moment, but the way in which the books set that up was so poorly done I can't even be mad that they changed it. I personally don't like that they changed what the actual location of the Eye was though. The original lore of the location is super interesting. I guess it's now supposed to be where Ishamael was sealed? They heavily implied that Rand broke one of the seals, although I don't think non-book readers had any idea what happened lol.
The fake out deaths are so bad. They've more or less established that Eg/Nyn can both save literally anyone at this point, which is going to prove to be problematic in future seasons. The Loial fakeout might have been acceptable if they didn't have all of the other ones happen already, and if they gave his character more time to shine so that non book readers would even give a shit about him.
I also heard the Showrunner talk about wanting to actually kill a main character at some point. So yay for that I guess... I think the biggest problems come from the way they seem to be tiptoeing around the genderedness of the Power. Nothing in this world makes sense without understanding the two halves and the breaking and why the men go mad, but they have done a terrible job of laying this out. The mechanics don't seem to have actually changed, it's all still there in the background, but they seem to be hoping that if they don't talk about it no one will get upset. It makes the key threads of the story feel really hollow.
If there's one thing a showbie needs to understand to get this series, it's the justified fear everyone has of the hero that's supposed to save them. None of the people I've watched with have got that, which is a pretty big indictment. The decision to add Women as possible candidates in the "who is the Dragon Reborn" storyline heavily screws with a lot of the established lore imo. I can't tell if they just wanted to add to the mystery by adding more characters to the discussion, or if this was just some poorly executed forced inclusion. Either way it doesn't work and WoT isn't an exclusive series/world to begin with. As for tiptoeing around the discussion of Saidar/Saidin, my only hope is that they didn't want to overload viewers with explanations of the magic system. Sadly those explanations are too important to skip out on this early. Maybe they will aim to expand on it in S2. edit: + Show Spoiler +also idk how you feel but to me the way they wrote the cold open with Lews Therin in EP 8 only further contributed to the problems you brought up. Establishing the previous Dragon as kind of a fool that made a hasty decision is so off. Absolutely, the ep 8 cold open is the heart of the problem in so many ways. + Show Spoiler +I was super excited when I realised we were looking at LTT v Latra. That was never on-screen in the books and I thought it was a fantastic way to introduce all of these themes and hook everyone in the process. The desperation is there, the importance of both halves working together is there, so is the choice to lose the war, or win it but be remembered as the guy who lost. That one moment fills every gap the show has left open.
....and they didn't do any of that. Instead we get a calm and almost disinterested conversation in a beautiful, apparently peaceful and prosperous city that serves absolutely zero purpose except to set up the dragon reborn [sic] as an arrogant moron. There's no hint of the war, not even any hint of the seriousness of the choice, except that latra somehow knows exactly what will happen but then just peaces out and leaves him to it.
The people I was watching with got to see me go the full cycle from excited dog meme to fry meme to setting the couch on fire in like 30 seconds.
Having walked away it's even more frustrating. I think they've chosen to take all the hubris and naivete and original sin that Jordan loads onto Lanfear's opening the bore, and instead attach it to LTT for closing the bore. That changes everything.
I swore to myself from the start of ep 1 that I wasn't going to be precious about any of the details. They could have deleted half the main characters and put the taint on saidar and made egwene the dragon and I would have sat through it. Literally the one thing I needed them to keep was the tension between saving the world and destroying it that the dragon embodies.
Instead he's just a dickhead. Why is it important that he's been reincarnated, again? I think the worst thing is that it seems like Rafe thinks this is a detail, when it's actually the soul of the whole series. It's maddening. (only just watched episodes 7 and 8 and came back to read ya'lls spoilers)
At a high level I agree with the take that Eps 2-6 were not that bad. 8 was a letdown for me, 7 somewhere in between. Also agreed that it's probably totally fine TV (my GF likes it!) but not what I want from this world.
+ Show Spoiler + Agreed that the fakeouts in particular are pretty grating. Nyn "dying" was annoying. Presumably Loial is still alive simply because he's done so little that it wouldn't make sense to introduce him at all if he died here which I find particularly annoying. And I can't tell whether other things are genuine divergences from the books or just weird fakeouts/changes that I can't place - e.g. did they actually choose to still Moiraine here? Urgh.
Oh also - man have they chosen to write in a whole lot of extra romances / lean into Lan/Nyn early! I don't love that just because I'd rather have spent all that time doing something else in the world, but whatever.
I also continue to be thrown off by the pacing. It's by far the thing that I'm most sympathetic about; I get that we simply can't spend 4 episodes traversing the world without any major events happening. But I find it...stressful (?) to watch with someone who hasn't read the books and feel like they're missing out on so much context and backstory and such because of how quickly things are happening.
SIdenote - apparently the budget for this was like $10 million / episode? It really doesn't feel like it lol.
