You want them to win. But isn't it nice enough that they got to the finals? As a fan, I'd be fine with that. As a player, I probably wouldn't be in the finals with that mindset though.

I finally found out why the project I'm on has a batshit insane design. The guy before me was a random guy with 0 technical knowledge. Finally realized why he had that role. The guy before him was really good at what he did but then retired and opened a consulting firm for the product we are using in the middle of the rollout for this project on 2014-15. The company refuses to pay for him to do any work for them, so the sane setup wound up getting tossed aside and the development, easy to setup style that has flashing red lights saying "DO NOT USE IN PRODUCTION" wound up getting used in production. It is fine at light loads but the heavier they get the more it just redirects transactions into a closed tcp connection, eventually crashing. So I wound up writing a Cron job to kill the processes if they were redirecting to an invalid port. If you're wondering, it is oracle documaker and our old system used Ibm MQ. This system uses the "developer only" http queuing instead. The problem is that internally it also uses loopback http addresses to communicate between processes... So it can accidentally dump web requests into the wrong pool if too many arrive. And so now I have to dust off the 2015 code for the communicating web service that used mq (and it was already really dated then) and update it to work today. The problem is that my managers keep saying not to do any large work on the system cuz they want to stop using it, but they've been saying that for 5+ years now. Additionally, our current load's rate of growth will overwhelm this design inside of 7 months and it would take at least 18 months and 5 more people to switch away, imo. Additionally, it is generally on my head if it dies.

If you look at it after the first shock of loss. Can we as fans have the expectation of our team doing not just well but the best? Are we supporting the competitive drive by being demanding with a pinch of compassion instead of the other way round? Of course there's no general rule but I'm interested whether being pushed by fan's expectations is detrimental or helps.
