Thoughts on Alliance coaching drama? Teams received updated rules from Dreamleague and Alliance were the only team that noticed that the rules left out the rule about coaches not being allowed to communicate with the players during the matches. So Alliance had ppd on the comms during their matches making calls and other stuff.

For once, rip alliance
second, they did the same with CSGO because of the bug abuse some coaches did, so i guess this comes from there

Dreamleague (and ESL for the east division, they had identical rules) just update the rules banning coaches again. Clearly, it was a mistake.
Feels really sleazy from Alliance. But considering the money on the line, I probably would've done the same. They said they confirmed the rules with the rule admins, but I'm pretty sure it was just something like 'So next season we play according to the new rules and the new rules are final, correct?' I doubt if they asked 'so if we have ppd in on the coms during the entire match it's cool right?' any admin would just say yes.
On the other hand, I think you could easily make a case for this being 'unsportsmanlike behaviour' by Alliance, which is in the rules. That's a catch-all rule for I think situations exactly like this, Alliance took an advantage (a rather massive one) of a clear mistake in the rules.

Exploiting a loophole like that is definitely bad sportsmanship, especially if they were the only ones that did it.

its cheating at worst and super scummy at best
im sure that they didnt msg the admins checking if it was okay, they just saw a loophole and decided to try it

They never asked, they are just lying lol

Alliance being the only team to make use of it is not their fault. Should they have brought it up in their discussion round with other teams? Maybe, that could be considered bad sportsmanship.
However, this is an F1 fan speaking. A sport where finding loopholes is a substantial part of the rule sets. "Let them have it and ban it for the future." is a ruling I really can get behind.

I'm with slomo. What's wrong with a team knowing the rules of the game better than their opponents and taking advantage?

forgive my ignorance, but i was under the impression that ESL simply removed the coach rules stating you CAN'T use a 6th player -- then a team included a 6th player saying "it wasnt against the rules"
and ESL said "we didnt notify Valve we changed the rules that they gave us, our bad"
is this not correct?
i would STILL say that the team is scummy given that it has virtually ALWAYS been against the rules and deemed unsavory to use a 6th player, it was never viewed as something 'okay' and was so mutually agreed upon as wrong that it was never really discussed, or included in most smaller rulesets because it was never brought up
it would be like making a law that says you can't create some huge domino machine that drops giant boulders on people, like it should just be assumed that you shouldnt

DreamLeagues statement says that they modified their coaching rule to “allow coaches to participate in team communication during gameplay” but they didn’t get the rule change cleared by Valve
This is 100% on DH/ESL

I'm totally fine with exploitation of the rules. The people making the rulebook just need to keep up / not make these mistakes. At the very least it's not on the players to follow rules that don't exist.
|
I mean it's a game so not a matter of life or death, but exploitation of rules is not something that should be allowed, anywhere.
it can lead to some nasty situations that you will have to accept because its not part of the rules

Titanfall 2 multiplayer is really fun, I suck but I'm having a blast anyway :D

Best game purchase of recent months has been Settlers II gold edition.
1.25€ for like 20 hours of fun and counting. I can finally use the macro knowledge I gained through watching StarCraft to beat the mission I never could as a kid.
Oh, it's actually free now lol. You can download it on various sites Though I'm not sure whether it's the Weidescreen high resolution variant

Then as they have done, the rules will be updated. It's great when a team finds a way to gain an edge without cheating either because somebody else screwed up and nobody noticed, or because they thought of something nobody else had done before them.

Im probably going way out of the topic at hand, because like i said, is just a game so im way over my head here (and i know it lol) but we should always weight in the idea of moral vs law/rule, not really clear cut.
I mean, theorically speaking, laws are, more or less based on the moral of the society.
But whatever, this is for stuff way more important than a coach being part of a game lol
