It's just a mean of attracting more people to pay more money. It's only becoming separate from RTSes because there's a ton of spin-offs that like to change a few things here and there and call them new and refreshing. We could argue whether that's exactly what defines a birth of a new genre, but for me all this MOBA/ARTS business is just a race to create the ultimate buzzword. Just another take on the F2P market, seeing how popular DotA and LoL are. | ||

The title is meaningless and things become genre once there is a large enough fan base to demand that specific thing in many different flavors. | ||

i think the main point of classifying dota as a moba is because the genre's easily recognized due to its popularity and well differentiated from other strategy games. beyond recognition, other reasons for narrowing genre classification are pretty moot. | ||
