You get player sets. That's even better than player pennants, I think.

But there are player specific sets, even if they are still related to a team. And the Era morphing set needs to come out. That thing is dope as fuck.

e: There's even multiple slots with different effects for each one. The artifacts have levels, which you have to buy individually and each level up costs more than the previous one. :D :D Oooh boy, that game is gonna be a grindfest.

But I guess the first time is always the worst. Not everything can be the 2004 post season with a team being down 3 games against their historic rivals in a best of 7 and then coming back through several over time games with an injured pitcher with a bleeding foot. Those types of series are rare and you watch every year because you want to be part of the magic when it happens. But sometimes its only once in a life time. But there are far more blow outs and disappointments that can't be solved by Icefrog.

boy was i entertained by the commercials actually that's not true, the first play of the game if i recall correctly was a "safety" which like was a epic fail as far as i understood and never happened before(during superbowl),so there was me seeing something historical happen i guess

The only reason i can think of is that they expect that this game has maybe a 6 month to a 1 year lifespan and they try to get people to spend a lot of money before its a ded game.

I think that people like progression and the game is a little lean right now. If anything, the idea of items to equip before a match is cool. Leveling them, not much. Unless they level up in like 3 matchs, which could be fine. Its Blizzard though, they are pretty good at making stuff not to grindy. Hearthstone has just the right balance of grind vs income. I don't expect this stuff to be like LoL where you need to play 20-25 matches to afford 1 of the 3 life steal runes you want.

On /r/games, the hots subreddit, on the official announcement comments section. Someone also made the math, apparently to afford add level 10 games and slots will take you over 300 hours of playtime. And remember that heroes are also not free, so you have to spend a lot of the ingame currency on them.

A hero with max runes vs a hero without any runes should win everytime. Not even a contest, how can this be acceptable by anyones standards?

As I said, I like the idea if its done will, but right now it seems like a huge gold sink. But if everyone is unhappy with the system, I am sure Blizzard will adjust it to a system people enjoy. Since there are no items in Heroes, I can see a small amount of customization to be in totally balanceable. And heroes isn't dota, so a small boost to start does not make or break a game. You can't fall behind quite as hard as you can in dota.

I don't even want to think about how insanely broken stuff would be in dota with runes like that. A hero with max runes vs a hero without any runes should win everytime. Doesn't hots already have like player levels that unlock different options when levelling as a way of tutorializing the lower level matchmaking? I don't like it because 'as a dota purist' I feel that every time you load in should be a fresh start, and what you do should be dependent on what your enemy does. But it's a different type of game and basically just a system which is there to keep people playing, like all the dumb progression shit they've added in modern shooters.

I mean christ, League has heroes that are expected to jungle if they get picked but can't (efficiently) unless you have certain runes and masterys, meaning if you're a low level and that champ is on free week and the only champ that fits the line up, you're f***ed. (That being said I understand they have a 'team builder' ie. role picking before the game now? So I guess that takes away the chance of that happening)

The game already has match making that puts you in a team of players that fill all the "necessary" roles and there is no set meta at this point. I can see it going to a step further to make it so people with similar "progression" are matched against each other. There isn't really anything in Heroes that you do solo anyways, because the game is all team fights all the time. Still, judging by the feed back, I don't think the system will stay as it is and Blizzard has been pretty open to changing shit in Heroes anyways.

Because surely any idiot would know that tons of people would be against a system like this. Right? That doesn't mean they should never do something the people don't like, because people are idiots. I'm just curious.

Also, when your making a game, the main idea isn't to please everyone with the stuff you are testing. If everyone his happy and you’re just focused on pandering to them, it will likely lead to some lack luster choices. It’s likely better to try some sort of extreme system and see how people like it, or which part people like, rather than trying to guess what they want. Day 9 said it in the interview about the game he was making. It far easier to go after the “low hanging fruit” but that’s not where the good design decisions are. Finding the stuff that people can really sink their teeth into and enjoy means you need to put in ideas that might not work and see why they don’t work. Assuming the outcome isn’t an option.
