I'm guessing that they expect the real day to be busier than today. I'm also guessing that they do not use the full battle.net infrastructure for this stress test. I'm also guessing that they can scale up, but need to see how much separate servers can handle, to see how much they need to scale up. And finally, since they are testing, I am guessing that they test separate phases, so first stress test the login, then stress test character creation, then stress test the game creation.

Then again, I'm only guessing.

Are you really that surprised? This is the whole point of the Open Beta weekend. Besides it happens with every game, everywhere.

You obviously didn't play Star Wars: The Old Republic beta weekends before release or on the day it was released then and everyone was logging in. There was no lag. At all.

I'm getting this Error sometimes but I'm sure that I'm typing in the right information. I use the same account to play starcraft 2.

Yep that's exactly what I'm getting. A few quick error 37's and then a minute or so wait to get disconnected from bnet.
