I had a banquet to go to tonight, but I was able to watch the first quarter and was thinking to myself "ahhh Lakers are playing very strong, I can leave and eat in peace now" ... then my friend text's me "nuggets win" - quite disappointing, although I'm sorta glad I didn't get to watch the game because I would have no doubt been pissed.

I would be shocked if he told them anything they didn't already know, besides the Mickey Mouse thing. It's not like the Lakers have a different offense than what they've been running for the past 160+ games, and George and Phil already know what the other does, plus defensive assignments are totally different this year with the roster changes. The "stats" are that Lamar Odom has been playing terribly, which he has been known to do.

Kobe has really impressed with his clutch shooting this series, but he really needs some help down the stretch. Go Nuggets!

Kobe trusts Fisher the most and I'm sure he had no problem with him taking the last shot(Fisher, Rick Fox are two of my favorite Lakers, ever). As for the East, the so called "experts" picked the hyped Cavs/Lebron over the Magic. Lebron is the best player in the league, but he can't do it alone. Cleveland doesn't match-up well with Orlando, at all. Lebron can guard anyone on the floor, but the rest of his team can't.

The Magic won by 1 point in a final possession game, with Mo Williams shooting under 33% and one of the worst coaching jobs ever by Mike Brown, while the Magic played a great game. People are talking as if the Cavs are screwed, when if anything they underperformed in that game besides Blackhole 'Bron.

I think Ariza's consistent, in terms of fastbreaks and steals. Vujacic and Walton are consistently mediocre. You're not asking them to wake up, you're asking them to have one of their best games of the season. Bynum and Farmar are the inconsistent ones. Shannon brown's a mystery but seems good.

Who gives a fuck about the margin. I didn't say the Cavs were screwed, just that they don't match up well. Who can guard Lewis, Howard and Turkuglu? Lebron can't guard all 3.

Lamar is definitely less impressive when coming off the bench, but he can do better than whathe's been doing. He doesn't have to score 20 pts or anything, but more than 10 pts with solid playmaking, rebounding, and defense isn't out of the question. Fisher may be getting older, but people's expectations aren't totally out of line. He was playing quite well during the regular season, and only started slumping at the end. The Lakers just need him to play defense, initiate the offense (and ensure that he doesn't have to take anymore desperation 3s with the shotclock running out), and make open 3's. Gasol is pretty consistent, but he really should be able to be more effective in the post against the Denver bigs. He doesn't necessarily have to score everytime, but he should be able to create for his teammates rather effectively since he has such a height advantage and can look right over Nene/KMart. I'm disappointed by the lack of non-putback scoring from Gasol because I know he can do better. I think the Lakers need to get him more touches and not go away from him as soon as he turns the ball over once or twice so he can get a rhythm going. Ariza's been pretty consistent, and I don't have many complaints against him. Sasha needs to start making his shots again. Maybe not like he was last year (that was just insane really), but at least be able to make the wide open shots that he got last game. He also needs to learn to play defense without slapping at the ball so damn much. Oftentimes the Lakers will play solid defense and force the Nuggets into a bad spot, only to have Sasha bail them out by being overaggressive on a player who has nowhere to go or is about to take a low-percentage shot. But really the most important part is that he's got to start making shots again. The Lakers need that 3pt shooting to keep defenses from collapsing the paint. Walton is doing about what I'd expect from him. 3-4 assists per game, while working hard on both ends sounds about right. I wish he would shoot better, but he's never been a great shooter aside from that one season where he was one of the league leaders in 3pt shooting for 1/2 of the season (before injury). I would expect him to make open shots though, and he hasn't for the most part. Bynum needs to wake the fuck up and get his head in the game. He constantly looks lost and allows himself to get frustrated too easily. The problem with him seems to be that his energy on defense is reliant on how his offense is going. However, he hasn't been able to score effectively from the post in the entire playoffs, so he's looking very lackluster on defense. It may be that he's still limited from recovering from his knee injury and still not being used to the brace, but he needs to just focus on rebounding and defending well. If he can shut down the paint even a little bit, the Nuggets' offense would suffer significantly. In the last game, I feel like the Lakers guards were doing a poor job of feeding the post. If Bynum or Gasol are being fronted, just lob the ball over their heads. Both of them are so tall that they're guaranteed to be the first ones to the ball and they'll be in a great position only 4-5 feet from the basket with their defender on their back. Phil's PG usage still puzzles me. Farmar was playing pretty well in the first half last game, but then he barely played in the second half. I understand that Billups is a bad matchup for him, but Kobe was guarding him anyway and J.R. hasn't done much but shoot 3's, which Jordan should be able to do a decent job of defending. Brown has been solid, and brings a lot of energy for the Lakers (which they're lacking a lot in the playoffs). Both have done a pretty good job of knocking down open jumpshots, which is why I think the Lakers need to find a way to get them on the floor more.

To be fair, Lebron was having an AMAZING night as well, so it's not like everything for the Cavs was par aside from MoWill and Delonte. If the Magic can slow Lebron even a little (like they did multiple times during the regular season) and continue to make his teammates struggle (again like they did multiple times during the regular season), they have a great shot at winning the series.
