This has mostly been a pretty well mannered discussion. Most of the people who disagree with me are also putting a lot of thought into their responses and not flaming. Neither side has really paid any attention to the random flamer. I know that most people on this blog have different political views than me and thats ok. This is one of the better political discussions I have had over the internet. --Savio

Helping a candidate win an election doesn't make them a good VP pick regardless what side you support. What makes someone a good VP pick is intelligence, experience, views, voting history, and other things like CHARACTER. I think that if you picked someone experienced and who filled that whole criteria, but dragged the ticket down to failure, it would also not be a good VP pick. Thats why there are 2 things that make a good VP pick: 1. Helping the ticket 2. All the stuff you said I think that up until this point, Palin has helped more than Biden has. Whether that continues through the debates, we will be spectators and see. As for the second one, I have a very different opinion of Palin than you do. I guess I am what you would call a "values voter". Palin is certainly lacking in experience, her views on scientific facts are hillarious, her voting history is limited, and her postions are characteristic of flipping with the political wind, and and I will go as far as saying her character pathetic. She's a communications major and beauty queen for fuck's sake. She denied global warming until joining the McCain campaign and wanted to teach creationism in public school up to this point as well. She flipped flopped on the "bridge to know where" which republicans love to broadcast and she has no foreign policy experience. In politics, both sides tend to lie a lot. Read factcheck.org and you will see the lies of the Obama campaign (Sarah wants to teach creationism, banned books etc.) and those of the McCain camp (Obama's a muslim, McCain sides with Limbaugh against Mexicans). Try not to cheapen the discussion here by feeding the lies. Have you heard me slime Obama as being muslim or trying to ban all guns? No, I have given my opinions of his experience and qualifications only. Here is a link to help you: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_palin.html

if you think that obama has the same level of inexperience as palin and therefore can not be attacked here... why do you think the republican party is sequestering her from media questioning. So far she has done terribly in interviews and comes off less than competent.

There are many true reasons why she would not make a good VP; that is not one of them.

Here's one of many qoutes "She’s in favor of teaching both creationism and evolution in the public schools. "Teach both," she said in a 2006 gubernatorial debate." http://www.thelangreport.com/political-commentary/sarah-palin-creationism-god-and-country-pt2/

Neither have Palin's socially conservative personal views on issues like abortion and gay marriage been translated into policies during her 20 months as Alaska's chief executive. It reflects a hands-off attitude toward mixing government and religion by most Alaskans. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080903/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_palin_creationism "She has basically ignored social issues, period," said Gregg Erickson, an economist and columnist for the Alaska Budget Report. She hasn't pushed her religious beliefs at any administrative position. EDIT: In case you're not familiar with that, the AP is an actual newspaper and not a heavily opinionated blog that cuts and pastes quote. Accidently used 'cut' instead of 'copy' on the link before. o.o

As per CNN, that as mayor of Wasilla, Palin blocked legislation that would have rape victims receive their rape exams free of charge. Hahaha. The black and white way to spin it is that Palin made rape victims pay for their rape kits. It's not that black and white, but still a hilarious sound bite. I just hope women aren't as stupid as Republicans seem to think. They seem to have the idea that putting a woman on the ticket, any woman, will garnish them angry Hillary-voters. Even if said woman represents the largest step backwards in women's rights you can take in a single election cycle.

"Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of education. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both." Is the point really that different? It's not
