Did he provide any photos and videos? Because this sounds a bit too similar to the classical governmental propaganda that was and in some places still is so widespread in Ukraine.

Also, if he is right and some people indeed came and started smashing everything. There is a hight chance that those people are the so-called titushki. What you described sounds rather close to what they were doing in Kiev lately.

I think they should worry about cleaning up the city a bit, so it doesn't look like a scene from Mad Max anymore

Oh come on, is it Lenin who forced all this shit for last 3 months in our country? This statue is a part of history of our city, and shitting on ur own history doesn't make anything with Yanukovich or his corruption!

Do you not understand how symbols work? Can you really not imagine what the towering facade of Lenin represents in the minds of those who lived under USSR rule only to have their government toyed with by Russian interests? Are you sure you're Ukrainian?

You do not erect a statue of someone for purely historical reasons, but rather to glorify him. Leave history for the books. And how you could glorify a mass murderer and a tyrant, in a now free country which suffered so much from him and his underlings, is beyond my understanding. For all I know, it should have been crushed in 90's.

Democracy and votes are like no real solution to some political crisis. Forcing a policy on a minority that ,say, absolutely hates the idea simply cannot pass with the 'but people voted and you lost!' argument. I guess if Ukraine, or any other country for that matter, has such a core conflict between political views and direction it simply has to split so each side can govern itself as it sees fit. Majority vote just sucks when people are so polarized.

That thought crossed my mind, though I am not an expert on photography forgery. Looked pretty real for me, if it is really a photoshop then my bad.

Yeah, that is the vision I am getting more and more inclined to. The split could be a permanent solution here.

How about we actually see how the votes go before we start partitioning Ukraine.

You guys are overestimating the split and underestimating the power of propaganda. Without a major part under Putin's control, the people have way more in common. Also, there is no talk of the Parliament overstepping its authority by the relevant FMs.

That is surely a good base for trust in future relations, if there is a power change now

Since Yanukovich's party and their allies have the majority of elected seats in parliament it would seem that his own party decided to turn against him. Since the 2004 constitution that he demanded as the price of allowing the democratically elected president come to power at that time transferred most presidential powers to parliament this isnt surprising. (If you are wondering how he could be such an authoritarian wannabe, when he was elected President in 2010 he pressured the constitutional courts to annul the 2004 constitution and revert the Ukrainian presidency to a 'strong' state).

Sure but a marginal victory for either side wont present any solution whatsoever.
