Haven't they already done this or atleast decided to?
Hey Paleman, I assume you live in Russia. Does the media there report that there are Russian troops in Crimea, or do they run with Putin's claim that there are none?
I'm asking because I'm wondering how the media portrays it there. Also, does the 'average' Russian thinks there are Russian soldiers there?

ehm... can anybody explain that idea to me so that I can understand?

i think most of the russian ppl think its our army troops
Wat How do the russian people explain that their media is obviously lying to them? I mean, when even they know that their troops are there, how can they believe the other stuff they claim? This boggles my mind quite a bit, there have been several russian posters here who defended the official version of Putin, do they selectively choose what of the things the russian media reports they believe or do those who support this kinda know what Putin's doing but support him anyway?

Thanks, I don't really speak to many Russians (dota 2 doesn't count imo :p ) so I really have no idea about things like that. It's interesting that most Russians believe it's their troops while the media and president say differently.
Do you think that the people look at Putin saying it's not their troops as sort of a wink wink, nudge nudge sort of thing? Or do they view it as him lying to them?

hmm i don't know how to explain this
we have big tradition from Soviet days to not believe official media sources that sounds strange but its true
most of the russian citizens fully support Putin cause we kinda consider Crimea our land

No different than how people consume media online, pick and chose what we like and say that's real. Journalism died apparently with cable (opinion based)news.

I think that "those are not Russian troops" is used officially just for the reason of plausible deniability, because no one for now can prove those are indeed Russian troops. In reality everybody knows those are Russian troops, even people in Russia. You know they also have cable/satellite tv and some sort of independent media, its not 1953. Basically that is not a lie made for Russian people or even for the west,i think its a technical thing.

It's apologism, a soviet legacy. One couldn't live in USSR and not go crazy unless he accepted apologism: there is a some kind of a higher goal or archenemy and everything bad that is going on in the country is a necessary evil, sacrifices need to be made.

Not to mention the humour. The Soviet Union sparked some of the best jokes ever devised by the race of men.
Troop movements reported near the Eastern border of Ukraine. Source.
Maybe it was illegal in Soviet legal system, so what? That doesn't mean Putin wants to annex Ukraine.
They cited Russian laws as legitimization of sending troops into Ukraine. If they consider such laws pertinent to the current situation, they also consider them pertinent with regard to the Baltics, potentially to every Warsaw Pact country, including half of Germany. Mentioning such rhetoric will sound off alarm bells across the world.
