Moving the army north would have the interesting consequence of triggering step 3 of the EU sanctions package. Something that Germany and France in particular would be very unhappy about. What's actually planned by the US and NATO remains a well kept secret as far as I know. But I doubt they will contend for territory, they will gain nothing from that.

I think we are far past pretending that Russia is there only to protect and serve. It looks most of all like he is preparing Crimea for a potential future military assualt. Well ofc they throw out journalists. They don't want any propaganda made against them...

“We are ready to continue a dialogue on the understanding that a dialogue should be honest and partner-like, without attempts to portray us as one of the parties in the conflict,” Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey V. Lavrov, said during an appearance with his counterpart from Tajikistan. Hours after he spoke, however, an unidentified military official told Russian news agencies that Russia was considering suspending inspections of its nuclear arsenal required by the strategic arms reduction treaties, as well as other military cooperation agreements meant to build confidence and avoid international confrontations. The official said the move was justified by “baseless threats” against Russia by the United States and NATO. A suspension of the inspections would undermine a pillar of international security and expand the confrontation beyond Ukraine itself. Nice to see Russia isnt without allies though: https://twitter.com/BBCWorld/status/442289779401433088/photo/1 And of course the great humanitarian: http://www.timesofisrael.com/assad-hails-russias-takeover-of-crimea/ Syrian President Bashar Assad says Russia’s military takeover of Crimea reflects President Vladimir Putin’s “wise policy” and his efforts to restore “security and stability” in Ukraine after an “attempted coup. In a letter addressed to the Russian president, Assad claims Putin’s move in eastern Ukraine prevented “terrorist extremists” from taking power in Kiev US were aware of Russian troop movements Michael Flynn, the head of the US Defence Intelligence Agency, said the US was aware of the Russian troop movements which preceded the take-over in Crimea. He told National Public Radio. “I think for easily seven to 10 days leading up to the Russian troops as we see them now in the Crimea, we were providing very solid reporting ... where we move from one level of a condition of warning, which I would just describe ... as sort of moderate to one where we believe things are imminent,” So Americans knew this was happening and were just waiting for someone else to take the lead? http://www.themoscowtimes.com/business/article/who-does-putin-want-as-ukrainian-president/495810.html Petro Poroshenko currently leads the presidential race with 21 percent of voters supporting him, according to a poll completed on Tuesday by Ukrainian pollster Sotsis. Ranking second in the Sotsis poll is former boxing champion Vitaly Klitschko, another hero of the massive anti-government protests, who leads the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform party and is a member of the parliament. He could muster 15 percent of the vote, Sotsis found. Next in the poll, with 10 percent of the vote, was Yulia Tymoshenko, the chairwoman of the Fatherland Party, who was released from jail by parliament following Yanukovych's flight to Russia No. 4 in the poll was Serhiy Tihipko, member of parliament representing runaway President Viktor Yanukovych's Party of Regions. Tihipko, who is also a businessman worth $1 billion, could garner 7 percent of the vote, the poll found. Top 4 candidates in the poll for the President, no Nazi Svoboda or Right Sector scum in sight. Considering the rhetoric and increasing aggression by Putin doesnt seem to have led to an increase in anti-Russians feeling. Which is good news, lets hope the Ukrainians continue to differentiate between Putin and the common Russian people.

Ukraine did. anti-vehicle mines and claymores are legal if their positions are appropriately documented and marked (which is impossible to judge from that picture!).
