Our chancellor and the german chairman of the EU-foreign-policy-commitee have already shown their support for preserving the integrity of the Ukraine. And at this moment the situation has not escalated enough to play chicken with russia.

Actually the interim government has asked for assistance from the US and UK so they are within there right to move troops to Ukraine to ensure the Budapest Memorandum is upheld. Both US and UK navy can't access Black Sea without Turkey's approval, which could take weeks. Plus Erdogan recently visited Putin to strengthen both Turkey and Russia's economic cooperation. He's not going to botch all that just for Ukraine. Erdogan is a salty guy lately, and he hasn't been very friendly with EU and US.

More like erdogan was too busy trying to fuck his own people. Guess he has alot in common with putin. On a more serious note this might be the start of the next great war. Ukraine is fucked though. We need at least 2 years to prepare for a serious military confrontation.

yep Russia could pretty much do what they did with baltics, lets say Lithuania for example, just walk in to the country and take over. GG

What is needed is for the EU to show some spine and do more then talk mild words. Putin is no fool and will not risk a war but when there is no counter pressure he has no reason to back off in the slightest.

There is certainly not going to be a "serious military confrontation". Nobody, Putin included, is going to risk a fullscale war over Ukraine. He might position a few troops in the crimea until a "referendum" decides to unite it with russia. I seriouslydoubt, that Putin will send troops any further. Ukraine has an army consisting of over 150k soldiers. A full fledged attack to invade Ukraine would force the hand of every neutral party.

Quite a sad turn of events...
I assume Putin sences somewhat of a weakness among the current crop of world leaders and an opportunity to divide Ukraine (and then conquer), however that may and probably will backfire.
He picked the best possible moment for a "democratic" invasion: economy in shambles, lack of chain of command in both military and law enforcement. Hell, the first thing the new gov-t did was to disband the Berkut special forces...

Or Putin is crazy enough to wish Ukraine is forced to fire the first shot to give an excuse to full blown invasion to take half of Ukraine. At this point, Putin is forcing Ukraine[s hand right now. And Ukraine has no chain of command to speak of.

However, he picked the best possible time for a "democratic" invasion. Nothing democratic about it. He is allowed to have men on his military bases but if they leave its practically an act of war. There is no action being taken against Russian minority's anywhere in the Ukraine so he cant use that as an excuse.

Shocking News : Federation Council unanimously approves sending troops to Ukraine.

So, hello Crimea? Either way, it is fairly obvious that there won't be a full scale war, it is much more profitable to just close eyes on this for either side (saying Russia and West ofc, who cares about Ukraine /s). Especially considering that Putin is well aware of limits he can push deal to.

Well, let's brace ourselves for the naughty words coming from western leaders now, i bet they will hurt deeply.
I just wish the EU would grow some balls, getting fucked by the US AND russia makes me cringe.

what are you talking about how is this dangerous ? he saw from obamas "conferences" that he will do absolutely nothing, EU is also doing absolutely NOTHING, Ukrain is now left for putin to take, like i've said this is just like baltics occupation, russians just rolled into Lithuania and took the country over, this is happening right here right now.
inb4 Obamas new response:
PUTIN IF YOU CROSS MY PURPLE LINE NOW YOU WILL REALLY REALLY REGRET IT WE WILL... WE WILL.. ERM DO NOTHING AND RELEASE ANOTHER POINTLESS STATEMENT YOU BETTER BE CAREFUL !
|
Hey at least it makes us Europeans look better. EU wouldn't do anything anyway but now we can point our fingers at Putin and call him a warmonger. I'm sure Ukrainians will appreciate our moral superiority!
