How sweet would it be if they were making a fighting game?
|
They merge with EA, Blizzard takes over The Sim.
|
My brain answer:
Rock & Roll Racing, Blackthorne and The Lost Vikings released on Xbox LIVE Arcade, Playstation Network, iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7/8.
OR
Blizzard All Stars. It will probably be released at some point this year. If anything, it would likely have its release date announced at PAX East.
OR
Battle.net World Championship Series 2013, with the winning teams/players of each region in StarCraft II and World of Warcraft invited to Blizzcon 2013.
My heart answer:
Diablo III to have an offline mode patched in, along with a complete itemisation overhaul before any expansion is released. This overhaul will be present in the PS3/PS4 version of the game. A DotA PvP mode and an actual endgame also to be included.
My dick answer:
Vanilla WoW client/servers. Will be stuck on Patch 1.12 and will be free to play with Blizzard Store-style cosmetic items as microtransactions.
Blizzard of course seeing the success of the mentoring system in RIFT and the success Old School Runescape has received.

I really do expect this PAX announcement to be something irrelevant (to a certain extent) to the pc gaming world. I see it as probably being confirmation of Diablo on console or maybe a deal to suggest they will bring more games to console. Or even something stupid like "social networking" integration from BattleNet. I don't see why SC2 DOTA or Blizzard All Stars is mind-blowing. Do we really need yet another DOTA clone? i totally agree we don't need another dota. anyways the ProScene will stick to dota2, making dota the only moba game worth playing. while sc2dota might give a better choice for LoL and HoN players who play on the shittiest platform ever and 2d animations... Hooray for announcements for announcements!
Definitely curious though hmmm.

One might suggest it's Diablo 3 PvP, but I think we all know that the odds just aren't good. Even if it does ever make it out the door, it'll be way too late. Maybe they can troll everyone and release it with the console version to bait out more hype.
Yeah I'm still bitter.
I'd really love to see Ghost though, I know I'm far from the only one that read Novas backstory and has wanted the game ever since even though we know it's vaporware. Hell, maybe when my thesis is done in a few months..

The scene is still with LoL, and honestly I sort of expect the MOBA genre to die with League when it eventually does. Here's a thought- maybe it's an Arena PvP game! With the mechanics of WoW arena, but different classes and balance and gearing. Like a really fleshed out Gladiator PvP game- there's a huge opportunity in the industry for some good MMO style PvP combat. Also makes sense that mainly WoW sites got invites (if true).
Has anyone ever tried that? It's kind of weird, I always felt that the MMO PvP scene was not really interested in lore or leveling, I wonder why there's no standalone games that copy WoW Arena gameplay. Especially since that would be the perfect game for over-the-top moneygrabbing F2P a la LoL.

It's the biggest game (and esport) in the world right now, so there's that.

I know! And no, they haven't. There are tens of thousands of WoW players playing custom Arena servers to not have to deal with leveling and gearing, but Blizz has just refused to have a permanent Arena Tourney server. GW2 failed as being the next MMO esport, Forge is kinda stupid... there's a huge hole for this style gameplay in the pvp scene right now. However, it is very similar to a MOBA, and if they're already making a MOBA... might cannibalize.

It doesn't matter how long you take, the loading screen lasts as long as the slowest player.

How is this being turned into a dota vs LoL debate? Amazing how the ego of nerds always comes out when it comes to defending "their" game.

Have you heard of Bloodline Champions? It sounds similar to what you're talking about.

There are many Arena PvP games out there, but mostly too small/too hard for mainstream success. + Show Spoiler +Bloodline Champions, and the recent Warhammer thingy (I think) to name a few. Also the warlock map for w3, maybe the standalone is finished now?

Heard of, but haven't played. Mechanics seem too DotA-esque.

spoken like a true person who knows nothing about what he is talking about. I almost always load the fastest when I played LoL but I can't help the kid running it on a 10 year old POS computer with dial up and an average ping of 450 ms.
And bloodlines champions is just like the UMS for SC2 that was around for a while, where you pick a hero ala dota and then battle it out(without items, mobs, or leveling up as all skills are maxed upon entry).

I'm sorry what? You do realize MOBA games have existed before LoL right? DotA 1? Hell, you can trace it back all the way to a custom BW map called Aeon of Strife. So this genre has been around for very long. Plus, keep this in mind, there were a lot of people still playing DotA 1 over LoL or HoN until DotA 2 came out, and there are still some today, in both Europe and Asia. That coupled with the fact that there are quite a few MOBAs on the market right now, some of which fresh and innovative with a healthy playerbase (like Smite, Super Monday Night Combat etc)...
LoL is very big. It's the popular thing right now, possibly more popular than any game has ever been. But to expect a relatively old genre full of hardcore players to just die out whenever its most popular and casual exponent dies out is simply absurd. ~~;
