Changing Grid hotkeys

I'm trying to switch to the grid hotkeys, but I have been using q as build, and a as attack move and its very hard to get out of that habbit, is it possible to change the standard grid hotkeys so that the pictures/icons are also in different positions, otherwise it will just be too confusing.

As somebody who has never used grid, or never wanted to use it, I whole-heartedly agree. It's ridiculous that you can't customise better with that layout considering the amount of customisation that is available to non-grid users.

To that end I also think that you should be able to customise other things like unit order so that it would suit your way of doing things.

For example, sentries have less priority than templar. When in a group together, the templars are the first one in the queue, when in most situations I come into the sentry is the important one to use first. For example, hitting forcfields, then storming after swapping to your templar. I remapped tab to a mouse button that, while not hard to hit, can be a bit awkward so I can't use it as easily as those of you who use tab. I use separate hotkeys for my templar now, and that's not bad to have to do, but the inability to re-order things is frustrating.

This is especially true of ordering priorities for niche buildings. I like to stick everything I don't have to use often on further hotkeys, but this doesn't always work all that well because of how the ordering works.

no you cant, which is sad because it was possible in warcraft3. well to be honest you probably could with editing the files, but that went out the window because they prevent that, it simply checks and redownloads the files if they are not what theyre supposed to be.

in warcraft3, editing hotkeys was done outside the game via hotkeys txt file and it also had option to set icons positions on the grid, while in sc2 this is buried somewhere in game files themselves. i mean its nice that its actualy ingame options menu to set, but ye, not completely editable.

so i dont know, just switch those keys and remember, shouldnt be too hard, me for instance ive made custom keys for everything and not much matches the grid, but it doesnt matter, its not like you watch icons what to press when you play, you do it by muscle memory

Just edit the standard hotkeys to make them like grid?

Pretty sure that the only way that you can do this is by making a new hotkey profile from scratch, which is going to take you a while. As someone who's been playing Grid since a couple weeks past release, once you get used to it it's pretty damn good, but i would not in a hundred years recommend it to you if you play zerg. Having "morph banelings" and "detonate banelings" on the same hotkey can make for some positively infuriating situations..

Wow, that seems ridiculously silly! I know Stephano plays on grid, so it can't be all bad but actually I have played a few games where my opponent has mysterious blown up all his banelings, so perhaps that is a Grid user in the flesh.

You have to customize a standard setup from scratch. It seems long to do, but it actually takes 2-3 mins when you know your goal setup (consider i did change like 70% of standard grid).
Of course it would be cool if the easy way was there =)

Blowing up your banes, making undesired queens/lair/hive are the common mistakes using standard grid. You should always have -make queen/morph lair-hive- on a key not used to build a unit.

Clearly you were playing me back when i was offracing zerg :p

It's the worst feeling in the world, and one of the reasons i switched back to protos after dabbling with zerg for a while..i just couldn't deal with it.
