i think it was you dodging it that gave everyone the impression.

i mean at least that’s the case here for me.

i’m not saying your monk like speech was wrong. i’m just saying it is horribly ironic in context.

Ahhh there it is the Danglers dodge. When you are determined to defend the indefensible because merely admitting the president screwed up would be impossible for your worldview, you instead change the argument to not be about the thing in question which cannot be defended you decide to make it about the reporting about the thing that cannot be defended.

No matter what else you try to talk about instead Dangers, the president was CLEARLY in the wrong here. It was probably not intentional, he did not wake up and say "let me offend the widow to a fallen soldier today" but he did and instead owning up to it like an adult he decided to be a child and lie about the entire thing. If he had take the mature adult approach and simply said to her "I did not communicate what I was trying to say very well, I was merely alluding to the fact that you must have gone thru this possibility in your head every single day since he left, since that is the greatest fear of every spouse of a soldier, but even with all that the real thing must still truly sting. I am sorry it came across how it did and I truly salute you and your husband for the service that you both provided to this country and his memory will live in through you and your children (I think he has children I do not remember very well)"

Say that, make sure it gets public and the entire story goes away in less then a day and by the way I wrote that on the fly a real version would be much better. Instead he decided to fight against a delicate a fallen widow because his ego is so small and fragile that the mere thought of being wrong causes him to lash out.

I get that you want to talk about anything but the president being wrong, but can you at least admit that this ENTIRE mess is of the presidents own making and that he messed up?

And Saint Obama has no scandals and didn't presage any of this shit. It would be more tiresome if it was less widespread, but you see it everyday. Rather sad.

Adreme has a monk like serenity when he straight ignores the John Kelly briefing and tweet to focus in on Donald Trump. You see, facts don't matter to him. Straight up. He can respond to a post without even pretending to address the substance of the post. Seriously. It takes a special mania to talk past the actual post and then ask questions as if everything's peachy. When you decide not to troll, I'll be here. Maybe next current event?

Wait, how is this now about Obama and his beatification? Wasn't this about Trump not being able to express sympathy to a widow?

When Obama dropped the ball or did something wrong, he had enough grace to admit it. Trump lacks that. This entire thing could have been avoided by him showing an ounce of humility, saying he is inexperienced and made a mistake. There are 1000 ways to walk this back and make it up to the family.

I really don’t know what Kelly’s deal is on this one. The congress woman was there during the call and it made her angry that Trump was so ham fisted, while also being eager to talk about how much he supports the troops and families.

John Kelly's predictable defense of his bosses mistake isn't the story, that's his job and it was obvious he would be the one they roll out to do it, the medias coverage of John Kelly's predictable defense of his bosses mistake isn't the story, those are distractions from the story because the story is indefensible.

The story, and this is why the conservative media will avoid talking about it at all costs, is that presisent disrespected the family of a fallen hero (again most certainly by accident) and instead of admitting he messed up and apologizing he lashed out at everyone imcluding the congressman and the widows family. THAT is the story and one I still can't get your opinion on.

Trump shouldn't have responded with the "I have proof" angle if he wasn't prepared to give it. We know now how Kelly helped Trump with what to say on the phone call. Check the video if you want the entirely believable account of what went down. I won't defend the president's use of Twitter in all this, particularly chastising Obama for phone calls, he's wrong. He's absolutely right to fire back at this congresswoman and wrong in the rest. At least now you're correcting with the comment you should've led with (It's predictable and you don't trust Kelly to be relaying a true account). That's progress.

If you actually watched the video and weighed Kelly's account of advice against what Wilson claimed the slight was, and still believe Wilson & Co, that's your choice. I've come to the opposite conclusion: it's more likely Trump did well on the call and Wilson twisted it to disrespect to score cheap political points (with Trump's help). And Trump's his usual classless self on twitter throughout.

Basically, people who don't address stuff want others to address stuff when they feel like it and to their satisfaction.

It's a pretty clear double standard, if you believe in things like standards. I still wonder if this is just the left's arguing practices or just a Trump-reaction.

This entire thing could be avoided had Trump not seen the need to brag about how much he cared about the troops and how much better he was than the past Presidents. It's an absurd situation.

In the UK we had a minor controversy when Prime Minister Gordon Brown wrote a letter of condolence to the mother of a soldier killed in action and called her "Mrs James", not "Mrs Janes". The difference is Gordon Brown apologized, called her to express his regret, and is half blind.

People capable of expressing humility don't run into these issues. We don't need to dismember the entire transcript and try and prove once and for all who was in the right. Who is in the right isn't the issue, nobody thinks that Trump was deliberately trying to upset the widow, no more than anyone thinks that Brown got the name wrong as an intentional slight. He just needs to apologize and move the hell on.

She's a grieving widow, the core reason she's upset is nothing that Trump did or said, it's that her husband is dead. That's what is at the bottom of this. The question is whether Trump has the tact and emotional intelligence to understand that the way you win this fight is by backing down. He doesn't need to "beat" the widow with transcripts etc, he needs to show compassion.

Yes, you do hold everyone in this thread to a double standard. You continue to accuse people of the very thing you are constantly guilty of. And every time someone tries to meet you half way they are met with disingenuous answers or whining.

Gainesville police arrested three men Thursday after one of them allegedly tried to shoot and kill a protester. Cops said the crime happened after the speech of white supremacist Richard Spencer at the University of Florida. 28-year-old Tyler Tenbrink and two brothers, 28-year-old Colton Fears and 30-year-old William Fears, were all arrested, and sent to Alachua County Jail.

The arrest reports and press release said that a silver Jeep containing the three men pulled up to a bus stop where protesters were sitting. One of the suspects started yelling Heil Hitler and other chants. Things escalated. There was an argument, and one of the protesters used to a baton to strike the Jeep’s rear window, police say. The protesters told police that the Jeep drove 10 feet, and stopped. Tenbrink allegedly stepped out with a handgun, while the Fears brothers egged him on to “shoot them” and “kill them.” He opened fire. The bullet missed.

The Jeep left the scene, but one of the victims took note of the license plate, so investigators were able to find the vehicle pretty quickly. Tenbrink allegedly admitted opening fire. The Fears each face a count of attempted homicide. Meanwhile, the alleged shooter faces a count of attempted homicide, and a count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felony. Jail records were not clear on whether they have an attorney. The brothers remain locked up on $1,000,000 bond and Tenbrink on $3,000,000.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency ahead of Spencer’s speech, so plenty of law enforcement were on the ground when this alleged shooting would’ve happened.

They hit the rear window of the car with a baton, shooting at them was self defense. /s

At least the article is clear that the Nazis were the one who picked the fight. They could have driven away at any point.

This is moronic in so many ways.
Does he know that the only rise in crime that has anything to do with muslims in the UK is a rise in islamophobic hate crimes? Exactly the kind his presidency encourages.
Fuck you Trump, you have your own people to piss off, stay out of our shit.

There was an uptick in homicides, of which the terror attacks were a secondary component. When there are as few homicides as the UK has then the Manchester attack makes a dent. But it's still a fucking dumb tweet.

John Kelly's job is to defend the president. He WILL NOT say a negative thing about and spent a significant amount of his day with others trying to figure out how to spin it. That's his job but it makes him a bad source.

The congresswoman is a better source than the president due to his LONG list of lies (including many times he claims to have proof but doesn't) , but she does stand to gain by lyingvso she isn't a flawless source (though her lying hurts her FAR more than his does). The family though has no reason to lie and has backed the congresswoman so I am given little reason to doubt the truth of that recounting.

This would have been over in a day though if he took the high road and said what I said on last page. We would have moced on and it would have been nothing. Instead he decided to attack everyone and I would love to hear your reasoning as to why the low road is correct here.

South Florida Sun Sentinel video from 2015 shows the full speech of Congresswoman Frederica Wilson at the dedication ceremony of a new FBI building in Miramar, Florida, named for two slain FBI agents. The speech has drawn attention after White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly criticized her for claiming "she got the money" for the new building. At a White House press briefing Thursday, Kelly was critical of Wilson for listening in on the conversation between Trump and the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson. Wilson was in a car with the widow and Johnson’s mother going to the airport for the arrival of Johnson’s body, and the call was placed on speakerphone. He then continued his criticism of Wilson for claiming to secure the $20 million funding for the federal building.

If people are wondering why Trump's staff keep getting dogged by reporters about really basic questions, Kelly's fuck up is the reason why. You fuck up on basic facts in a harmless statement, no big deal. Make false claims as a form of attack against anyone, credibility down the tubes. Reporters can't print what Trump's staff says without triple checking or forcing them to provide more details.
