I honestly feel like Kasich would do well in a national election (perhaps better as the VP choice though), he would certainly win Ohio in no time. Unfortunately the moderate Republican just doesn't seem to speak to a large chunk of their traditional electorate anymore.

I don't really understand the huge support for Obama but disappointment with Clinton. They're very close on policy issues and Clinton is arguably less aloof and better connected in Washington. Sure Obama was a charismatic guy but if you liked him you should be at least enthusiastic about Clinton.

That is a big question. Clinton has been part of the national conscience since her husband was elected 23 years ago. Her long history both as a politician and as the wife of the President have not been spotless.

Comparatively Obama was a Chicago politician and not a household name. He appeared out of nowhere and fit the part of the President despite the initial shock of his skin. It was a shock nationally to have a popular black candidate even if it just wasn't something you said on TV. But this man could sell you a rock from outside your driveway and convince you that rock would change the world.

Clinton is not of that caliber. Her policies may be similar. Her experience may be even greater than Obamas. But when I look at her I look at her warily. With Obama it was open arms and a willingness to believe in his dream, not just his policies.

He is only moderate until you pay attention to what he says. It's hard to do when he was overshadowed by Trump, but if you listen closely you will find someone who is far from moderate.

My impression was, like his time as my governor, that it was expected of him to do these things and not something he was passionate about. Stuck in a family of politicians.

The last policy related thing I read about him was how he managed to plummet Ohio from being a top ten state in education rankings to rank 25 or something because he gutted education funds by half a billion and celebrated that as a win. I think he's just as terrible as Trump, he just looks like the nice grandpa type

Moderate probably isn't the right word. He incorporates stances from both parties across all of his policies which is virtually unheard of these days esp. on the national level. He's been my governor for 6 years, I've seen what he does, not just what he says.

Education was something that he tried to push incredibly unsuccessfully. The Ohio student compared to nationally was already on a downward trend, it's hard to know if his policies accelerated them or kept them at the same pace of failure.

My understanding of Kasich is that he's been a somewhat typical Republican failure of a governor. He slashed corporate taxes heavily, promising to make up the expected shortfall with growth. Then he ran a deficit, panicked and raised sales taxes (a regressive tax punishing the poor) to make up the difference, exactly as they always do.

Now I'm not saying that he won't get support for doing that nationally, but I don't think anyone is selling him as a moderate.

better connected yes; on aloofness I'm not so sure.

clinton has a few personality aspects and leadership choices I find troubling.
but I don't really mind clinton that much.

Double digits yes, and I am very very worried. Triple digits? Only Trump has heard of this fact as far as I'm aware. The Affordable Care Act needs a lot of help though.

Walker, Haley, Martinez (maybe).

Walker is dead in the water, he'd bring the reality of conservative government economics to the national stage and the Republicans can't tolerate having people actually scrutinize what's happening in states like Wisconsin and Kansas.

Feels kind of like a baiting statement, but I'll point out the question is "who wants the job [and who will try]?"
I could see him trying again, unless he's so dejected from his failure this time around.

She lacks the charisma of Obama but I think she'll do a decent enough job in the Oval Office. They are two very different skill sets.

Also if you want to see her genuinely happy then watch the debates again. Every time Trump stumbles she gets this glazed look over her eyes and her mind drifts to thinking of herself in January.

The thing that's going to be annoying is if Clinton wins (or even if she loses maybe) the rebound is going to probably make people forget about Comey real quick, but it seems like Comey's lasting impact is going to be for the senate races which got a ton closer after the re-opening of the investigation.
