Carson is a biblical literalist creationist, Trump is an atheist. Sure Carson and Pence have a lot in common but that's not winning you anything. The social conservationism angle republicans have always taken is a total fucking dead end. If they don't pivot 180 degrees away from that the party is doomed. More and more of the old people that believe that garbage are dying every day and they're not getting replaced. As time, the country, and the planet move forward they're going to get crushed and killed under the wheel of progress. If the republican party doesn't want to die with them they need a total overhaul and reshaping of the party and their principles from the ground up. Trump is actually not an atheist (at least not openly). He attends faith conferences and talks about how big a role God plays in his life. I dont believe any of it but he is at least in public a religious person.
He might not have come out and said it, but lets be real here. The man couldn't believe in anything that Jesus taught less. He was 1000000000% pandering for the evangelical vote.

He couldn't even quote the bible. "two Corinthians" sounded like a '...walk into a bar' joke.

lol neither of you live in Ohio huh.
I'm hoping it's just the area I'm in (Hamilton County) but I think it's probably like 75/25 Trump > Clinton for signs in yards, and I haven't seen any signs for Trump taken down since yesterday. If anything a few more are up

Hard to believe that Trump making lewd comments is the thing that will sink his presidency, after everything he has already said and done

It's true, I'm a NYCer. I think that given another week or two, it'll shift more.

I feel that it is the literal definition of the phrase - the straw that broke the camel's back. The camel is already struggling to carry the other loads and this added straw gave it the reason to sit down and refuse to move.

There's nothing wrong with being an atheist, I'm one myself. However if you're an evangelical voter there is one, which is why he has had to pander to them. Atheists are very disliked in America, especially politics. It also shows that he really has very little in common with Ben Carson who is insanely religious. Which is the entire reason it came up if you were following along.

So the question is should Hilary focus more on attacking Pence since Trump is basically dead in the water just in case he drops out? I mean attacking Trump seems almost pointless at this point because if you just sit back he will shoot himself in the foot so should you attack Pence for his brand of lunacy (which is also somewhat weird)?

I would avoid attacking Pence. I think the next step is to shore up the positive ads on herself and let the Trump boat sink itself.

He does claim to be very religious and he is winning with Evangelicals. He won them in primary and is winning them in the general so you may as well go with Carson who has the same outsider views who can hold onto them better than anyone. Maybe Christie can because honestly Christie has the same temperament as Trump but is not quite as well stupid.

Evangelicals will vote Republican or they'll vote for nothing. You don't need to shore anything up there and you already have Pence anyway. You're doubling up for no reason. The election is literally unwinnable without someone more "centrist" like Rubio or Kasich. (I mean its unwinnable either way. But they NEED independents)

The thing though is if Trump drops out after the 3rd debate there might not be enough time to highlight all that is wrong with Pence specifically all of his crazy anti gay positions.

Trump is not going to drop out, he's wanted to be president even longer than Hillary.

Who needs more time? Pence to shake off the mantle of Trump, Or Hillary to call out Pence?
If neither has time Trump garbage will bury Pence.
The longer they wait to replace Trump the worse it will be for the Republicans. But as said, Trump is not going to drop. The party is not going to throw out the crazies.

She doesn't need to. She just needs to appear composed and give the message of "vote for me because my party isn't totally in shambles (yet)". Attacking Pence is counterproductive in this regard, if anything.

Pence will be able to cast himself as the adult in the room. He will be able to keep all the anti Hilary vote while hopefully holding together the Trump coalition and in turn bringing in a lot of the educated republicans who detest Trump. If you do not define Pence then he can define himself and he could win if he gets to do that.
