Their master plan as backfired and their party gives no fucks about the leaders. If there are leaders, because I don't think Ryan could put together a vote on anything at this point. Somewhere out there, Boehner is watching the news while drinking whiskey with a contented grin on his face.

At least pick Rubio or someone that independents might not laugh out of town instantly. I've been saying Rubio would have crushed hillary and everyone here was laughing about how he got bend over with just one comment about being tardy during the primary. That would have been over after a week and who gives a crap about that when all you need to win this election is to look like you're not literally a monster. Pretty sure a lot of people could forgive Rubio for not showing up for work [ever] as long as he's up against people like Clinton, Trump or Cruz in a general election

They both appeal to socially conservative and religious crowds first and foremost. The goal with that ticket is not to win. The goal is to use Carson to placate the Trump voters and keep them in the tent while using both Carson and Pence to keep the social conservatives happy and make sure there is an actual party for 2020 (I hate to tell them that by 2020 its virtually impossible for a republican to win the white house).

There is no Republican party in 2020. Their voters have increasingly run off the nut end. The moderates are leaving the party because they don't want to be bedfellows with the crazies. There is no way forward. only further back.

I don't see how Carson could appeal to Trump voters. They're pretty much nothing alike, both in terms of policy and in terms of demeanor.

Trump and Carson got on pretty well I believe. He was actually a rumored candidate for VP. Both are outsiders with no regard for reality

Trumps major appeal is that he is not a career politician and that he will "tell it like it is" (I put that in quotes because people who pay attention know that he lies more than any politician in recent memory which is impressive in its own right)

Carson is a biblical literalist creationist, Trump is an atheist. Sure Carson and Pence have a lot in common but that's not winning you anything. The social conservationism angle republicans have always taken is a total fucking dead end. If they don't pivot 180 degrees away from that the party is doomed. More and more of the old people that believe that garbage are dying every day and they're not getting replaced. As time, the country, and the planet move forward they're going to get crushed and killed under the wheel of progress. If the republican party doesn't want to die with them they need a total overhaul and reshaping of the party and their principles from the ground up. Trump is actually not an atheist (at least not openly). He attends faith conferences and talks about how big a role God plays in his life. I dont believe any of it but he is at least in public a religious person.
