Yeah but usually that co-opting ends up influencing the major party's policies doesn't it? Like the major party scoops up the 3rd parties policies to take their voters. That sounds like a step up from where we are right now.

I mean, that kind of happened with Bernie. Sure he ran under the Dem ticket but he was pretty much a third party with funding.
His run moved the dems to the left by quite a bit.

After this is all over how will the the people been seen who dumped Trump in 2020? I've seen the sentiment a lot that people don't want to ruin their image by defecting, but is this really the case? When this has blown over will someone really blame the guys who ditched Trump?

Incidentally, anyone want to guess the odds Trump leaves his safe space and has a press conference before the election? It's been over two months now.

I look forward to the Wile E. Coyote inspired back peddling that's about to come. The mental gymnastics all those down ticket Republicans are going to be doing to try and put distance between them and Donny and how they're going to pretend this shitty idea isn't squarely their fault, but actually the fault of the left. Time to get a few garbage bags of popcorn ready.

That sounds like a step up from where we are right now. yes, it does. but there's already a libertarian wing of the republicans, and various environmental/green wings in the democrats. So I'm not sure how it'd be a notable step up.

Rumor is that the people in his circle telling him to endorse Trump were outnumbered (might have even been just one guy). This whole thing is hilarious.
The primary in 4 years is going to be something.
By the way, this makes all the sexism BS against Romney look like the garbage it was.
Edit: speaking of Romney

Y'know, at least this election is clearly illustrating Trump is:
1) An utterly terrible debater 2) Completely incompetent when it counts 3) Utterly without real principles 4) Not able to hire the best people 5) Possibly a failure as a businessman 6) Unable to defeat someone even when given tools honed over two decades to do so
The image he projected is just being shown to be completely wrong.

Of all the things Trump has said and done it's this bit of moronic machoism from 11 years ago that people care about? I'll never understand US politics.

In an interview with the Guardian published today, Jill Harth detailed how Trump made numerous sexual advances toward her in 1993, culminating when she says he cornered and groped her in a bedroom. Harth attempted to press charges in 1997 but withdrew her lawsuit and has since remained quiet about the case. She says that since her allegations resurfaced in a May New York Times article about Trump's treatment of women, the Trump campaign has continuously pressured her to recant her account.
Harth says she first met Trump in 1992 during a business presentation, when she was working with the American Dream beauty pageant festival. Harth was with her romantic partner, George Houraney, at the time, but Harth says that did not deter Trump from sexually pursuing her. Trump "stared at her" throughout her meeting, according to Harth, and then asked Houraney: "Are you sleeping with her or what?" When Houraney said yes, Trump asked if it was "for the weekend or what?”
In Harth's 1997 lawsuit, she describes several instances in which Trump allegedly harassed her. In one instance, Harth says Trump groped her under the table during a dinner with beauty pageant contestants. Then in 1993, Harth says, Trump cornered her in a bedroom in his Florida mansion during a business visit, an incident described in the lawsuit as an "attempted 'rape'." Harth tells the Guardian:

This sounds like a hoax if ever read one. 20 years later, rly?

I'm fairly sure Donald Trump is incapable of understanding the magnitude of how damaging this is to his campaign. It's just normal behavior to him that he wouldn't engage in in public. The real damage from this may be yet to come - his non-apology may be the best anyone gets from him on it. The worst could be coming in his reactions to the blanket condemnation of his statements by people he thought were his allies.

It turns out saying you grab married women by their pussies right after you got married (and your new wife has a kid on the way) kind of turns a lot of people off more than most sexist comments.
Plus it's the perfect crystallization of his post-debate women issues, like if two weeks after "47%" an audiotape leaked of Romney talking about how much he hates the fucking poor.

As we've seen already before, most of these things just blow over if Trump lets them be. Where they really impact his chances are when he looks like a complete buffoon by making some irrational 3 AM defense when he should just let things be.

Where does he say he grabs married women by their pussies? The line goes 'you can do anything [when you're a star]. grab them by their pussies.' Can. Not 'I did that to that married woman I couldn't get with.' Do you honestly think we wouldn't know about it at this point if Trump routinely grabbed the crotch of every other woman he meets?
I can't believe I'm actually defending Donald fucking Trump after yet another display of why he's a despicable human being, but holy shit this false gleeful outrage is annoying and exactly the type of dishonest embellishment that seems to always get in the way of actual political discourse.

He's endorsing the idea.
Also:
1. Famous people can do anything they want to women. 2. Donald Trump is famous. 3. One notable thing you can do to women is grab their pussy.
The fact that Trump apologized, if you can call it that, immediately after this was announced shows you even he recognizes this doesn't look good.
