More than 4,000 people have signed a White House petition urging the US Federal Government to formally recognise the Black Lives Matter (BLM) campaign as a "terrorist organsiation". The calls come as five police officers were shot dead by snipers during a BLM protest in Dallas on 7 July.
The petition was started one day before the shooting, however, it gained popularity following events in Dallas. Anyone aged 13 or older can sign a petition on the website and the White House will respond to the request should it gain 100,000 signatures by 5 August.
The creator of the petition, identified only as Y.S., wrote: "Terrorism is defined as 'the use of violence and intimidation in pursuit of political aims'. This definition is the same definition used to declare Isis and other groups as terrorist organisations. Black Lives Matter has earned this title due to its actions in Ferguson, Baltimore, and even at a Bernie Sanders rally."
The petition does not elaborate further on the actions of the BLM campaign, however, it urges the Pentagon to classify the group in the same category as the Islamic State (Isis) terrorist organsiation. It notes that this needs to be done "on the grounds of principle, integrity, morality and safety".
One of the police officers killed during the shooting has been named as 43-year-old Brent Thompson of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (Dart) team. He is the first officer to have been killed in the line of duty since the department formed in 1989.
A Dart spokesperson said: "As you can imagine, our hearts are broken. This is something that touches every part of our organisation. We are grateful to report the three other Dart police officers shot during the protest are expected to recover from their injuries."
The BLM protest was sparked by the shootings of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling by police in Minnesota and Louisiana. It remains unclear who is behind the shooting of police officers at the event, however, three suspects are in custody. They are said to be refusing to cooperate with the police.
Castile was shot by a police officer in Falcon Heights on 6 July during a traffic stop. His girlfriend, Lavish Reynolds, live-streamed the aftermath of the shooting as her boyfriend bled to death in the driver's seat. Sterling, 37, died from gunshot wounds to the chest and back one day earlier after being apprehended by police in the state's capital Baton Rouge.
There were more than 1,000 fatal shootings by the police in the US last year, with black men killed in disproportionate numbers.
Is this where we're supposed to quote dozens of white supremacist tweets and then insist that they represent some cognizable group of white people? You've literally proven nothing with this.
You seem to have trouble understanding that a small group of extremists does not represent or get to define the views of a group as a whole. Does the fact that white supremacist groups have attempted to infiltrate law enforcement or that there are KKK police members mean that all police are racist? No it doesn't. Stop pretending stuff like this is evidence for anything.

We need to put this in context that folks on the site will understand.
Just because one zerg player tells you to die in a fire and get cancer does not mean all zerg players are human garbage.
cut the bs men, none of you knows how many white supremacists are there yet some of you are convinced they are a few. seriously, statistics!, or your guess is as good as that of the ones who assume they're representative enough to matter.
While I am on the side of thinking that the "white cops are out to kill black men" rhetoric is just hysteria, and inconsistent with the facts, and I do consider BLM to be an obnoxious group that is not advancing the discussion in any way....
I also think it is absolutely ridiculous to label them a terrorist organisation in any way. An organisation is labelled as terrorists when it is completely clear and unambiguous that their official leadership/representatives condone terrorist actions done in their name. That is not the case at all with BLM. It could be because they're just not organised enough for that to be clear, or it could be because they simply don't. But even if they poisoned the discourse, so to speak, it's still an extreme measure to lay blame at their feet when small minded people used the result of the discourse as a blessing to kill cops. The blame lies entirely, 100% at the feet of those who did the acts. And we don't know what their relationship is with the organisation, except that maybe they "sympathise" with them.

Where do you get your truth?
I don’t. The truth is not available through media. Only perspectives.
There's no reason to label "Black Lives Matter" a terrorist group unless you're confident that all of them embrace terrorism (hint: they don't). If you can find a subset of them that are acting to do such that subset is a terrorist group and should be named as such, but it's up there with naming Gulf War veterans a terrorist group after the Oklahoma City bombings.
It's why Al Qaeda is a terrorist group, but Sunnis are not a terrorist group.
The news of the shooting largely missed me, because I was busy looking for a place to live. Then I went to wikipedia to check what happened and was first quite confused, what was the motive of the shooting - I would kinda have expected that if the shooting was racially motivated, that information would be prominently featured, together with the information that the shooter himself was black. But that's apparently not how wikipedia rolls these days. When I asked on the talk page, I got informed that determining that someone is black from looking at his picture is "original research".
Is that just a wikipedia thing where PC fans have a field day with their agenda, or is this a general thing in media being reluctant to acknowledge a racist act when it happens the other way around?

everyone has a bias, and want to push their narrative

It happened yesterday. Much of that information is only surface level at this point.
And yes, wikis are generally places where people attempt to put their perspective out there. There is nothing unbiased about any wiki. Though some are better about displaying their bias or explaining its context.

You are only allowed to shame white people for being racist, I tought that was well known.
Omg, this video does put the BLM thing on perspective:

No, you are encouraged. And by white people, for that matter.

Yet you clearly side with some perspectives over the others. How can you live with yourself if you know you can never grasp the truth in its pureness?

I just read the talk page. Just find reputable text source that gives the race(s) of the shooters and you should be good. The wiki is not in it's final form, investigations are still being done, not everything has been released, so the wiki can only update as fast as things have been released. Have patience, I'm sure it will all appear eventually.

Yes, that is called making an informed decision. I understand the others perspectives, I just don’t agree with their conclusions.
