I saw a U.S.S.A. bumper sticker a few days ago and wanted to stop the guy and explain to him that the R in USSR does not stand for Russia and that even if it did USSA would be Union of Socialist Soviet Americas which would be dumb as hell and that if the USA became a Soviet state it would be called the USSR also.
Alas he drove off into the distance.

well, we can't have Trump or Cruz, and Bernie just doesn't stand a chance ... so I guess my man woman is Hillary.
I literally haven't heard a single positive 'She's the best person for the job, her record shows she can lead, her scandals and corruption have been overblown, she's my girl!'

I'd vote hillary against any of the current top 5+ republicans, but I wouldn't like it.

There again with B-Sands it's probably
"Sanders for a futile attempt to enact sweeping reforms in a divided America followed by a reevaluation of goals and perhaps the laying of necessary groundwork for an eventual better America in 20 years"
I like what Sanders is saying but I also understand that half of America hates it on principle and obstructionism has been their stated policy for 8 years. They could probably do another 8.

I guess she's just a very pragmatic choice and when somebody is asked for their political preference they're not going to give you a career bureaucrat as an answer. On the other hand she's probably going to get more useful stuff done than anybody else.

Hey, in my mind I'm lately always praising the USP thread for it's sanity. Taking refuge here.
I guess how bad you look is always about the contrast. And the EUP thread is quite a dark one.

I know what you mean. I'm currently living in hillbilly-no where Indiana and I see so many trucks driving around with the "confederate flag" flying in their truck beds. I can almost guarantee you most of them don't realize that Indiana was part of the Union, and that the flag they're flying was never really the Confederate flag.

Not gonna defend rednecks, but your intelectual high-horse is disgusting.
You are basically implying "smart" people are supposed to be Welfare state fans and support a self procclaimed socialist. Jesus.

I agree with what you're saying if he was trying to imply "smart" people for being for those things. But he isn't really implying that "smart" people are supposed to be for that, he said "TLers"... Which is mostly made up of young people....which are mostly uninformed on political/economic issues.

I'm a Hillary supporter, and those saying "people support her because of a single reason" and "no one is enthusiastic" are oversimplifying the situation quite a bit.

On February 03 2016 11:52 oneofthem wrote: i've been a hillary supporter since before obama It just didn't really come through. We didn't have a big 1500-page thread in 2008, it was the 2012 election. You vote for her in a primary? Believe she would've done a better job as president 2008-now?
The enthusiasm for her is just dead, from the Santa Monica libs to San Diego. Most current Hillary-supporters people I talked to wished for Biden, and Warren behind him (though obviously the latter identifies more with current Sanders supporters). It's like some dismal, dutiful vote for party, the only fire comes when we talk about Trump & Cruz.

You are basically implying "smart" people are supposed to be Welfare state fans and support a self procclaimed socialist. Jesus. Well, isn't that the state of the union? Opposing progressive policies is not fighting the good fight, it's obstruction. Everybody knows they're the right ideas for the country and it's only out of hatred, nay racial hatred, that they're rejected. If this thread is one thing, it's the settled opinion that the intellectual high horse is just the flat ground of political sense, and the conservative wing of the GOP is in a hole digging itself deeper and trying to drag the rest of the country with it.
