Blair's religion certainly impacted his decision to lead armies to the Holy Land.

When Carson was asked by journalist Sharyl Attkisson if he believed the "end of days" was near, he said, "You could guess that we are getting closer to that."

"You do have people who have a belief system that sees this apocalyptic phenomena occurring and that they are a part of it, who would not hesitate to use nuclear weapons if they gained possession of them," Carson told Attkisson, a former CBS News reporter, on her show, "Full Measure" that aired Sunday.

Why are people even asking him if he thinks the end of days are near. I swear these questions are coming out just to induce more clickbait headlines.

I'm glad he said he's not backing down or changing anything.

She started off asking him about his religion, and he is seventh-day adventist--- which is a denomination which believes in the imminent second coming of Christ, according to wikipedia.

Of course why we still ask candidates about their religion is another good question.

Religion impacts policy.

But not in predictable ways, as evidenced by the widely different policies implemented by many presidents who seemingly share a religion. For instance, GW was Methodist and according to wiki Obama has attended mostly Methodist churches since he resigned from the Trinity United Church of Christ. Yet they have had pretty different policies.

It seems clear to me that religion is not a very important aspect of a potential president's decision making process.

That's not what Ben Carson supporters have been saying for the past 7 years when they say that Obama is a muslim.

It's probably fair to say that I disagree with Ben Carson supporters

Why? Because religion influences their political choices?

However that wasn't really predictable from his religion.
It was only in that particular circumstance that his individual interpretation of his religion led to that policy.

Getting into great detail on someone's religious views would be interesting but not as much as their general social/political/economic views (which their religious views will tend to support assuming they think at all)

An apparent belief in religious discrimination/islamaphobia being OK is a part of it, but mostly it's that I fall on the far left of the spectrum and have little in common politically speaking with any of the conservative candidates this year.

Well considering a lot of the GOP candidates have specifically tried to invoke religion as the primary foundation behind their opinions on the issues it does matter. Someone like Obama comes off as not being as influenced by his religion when making decisions, the opposite can be said for many of the GOP's candidates,

I agree with that, and that makes me incredibly happy (with Obama) as both an atheist and as someone who recognizes that the government is supposed to be impartial and secularist. The Republican candidates invoke God every chance they get, and it's really annoying.

Cmon lively debate. I don't think Hillary has a shot at making t so, unless somebody incites her to the Team Woman shtick. Trump promises a live-tweet. I want the two arguing at who's further left or authentically left (to each other or individually on questions and to the camera). Second best would be giggling at The Trump tweets and following media storm.

Any of you guys trying to watch debate on cnn.com? My stream crashed as soon as the debate was about to start, but has been working for the past half hour before.

wow. I have seen rocks with more charisma than Lincoln Chafee. Wtf was that terrible speech?!

EDIT: Jim Webb is only very marginally better with his desperate bid for the sympathy vote.

EDIT 2: O'Malley is nervous, but his speech is a billion times better than the previous two.

EDIT 3: Bernie Sanders knows how to speak

EDIT 4: Hilary putting me to sleep. She doesnt have Bernie's pzaz, despite hitting many of the same issues.

I'm in a lounge watching with ~15 other students, but I've heard the stream is not great. >.>

Webb sounds like a nervous applicant in his first job interview.
I like the guy, but I can't imagine him Pres.

O'Malley sounds better.

Bernie is just railing issue after issue. Loving it.

Hillary's intro was smooth as well. And she's handled Cooper's jabs pretty well.

Can someone tell me if there's a stream somewhere that I can watch from abroad? The CNN stream is not available in Korea so I need to use an extension to make them think I'm in the US which makes it significantly slower.

Hillary sucks. What a charlatan.
The unrealistic sound of these propositions is indicative, not of their utopian character, but of the strength of the forces which prevent their realization.

Hillary's cheeks look like they're about to explode from all of the forced smiling.
