The fear of countries Iran having a nuke is if they are crazy enough to give it to a third party to use. But even then, it’s not like the world couldn’t figure out where it came from if they used it. If they wanted to create the political will for the US and allies to invade their country, using a nuke against any country would pretty much be the source of unlimited amounts of that.

A nuke is pretty useless except as a dick enhancement unless you have enough to impose a credible MAD threat anyways.

I think the biggest danger from an Iran nuke would be how Israel would react to it. They would stop at nothing to prevent Iran from completing the final steps to getting a working nuke (with some justification), and a war between Iran and Israel would be a disaster.

Still waiting for that alternative solution.

The superior solution is allowing them to develop nukes in exchange for them helping in dismantling ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. Its only a smart deal if you have a narrow view (aka "nonproliferation expert") of the world.

How do we ensure they do that? Well, the enforcement options in the nuke deal are no better: War, or sanctions.


It's a very pretty "kill 2 birds with 1 stone" scenario, but what on earth is going to make Iran do x in exchange for y? Like, do we straight up say "hey, if we knock out this laundry list of organizations destabilizing the mideast, we'll give you a usb with plans for a nuclear bomb?

There are sanctions in place, remove them in an orderly fashion when Iran completes it's goals. It's basically an arms agreement: we dismantel our sanctions, you dismantle local Islamic terrorist groups.

@gorsameth, mostly agree. I just am much less concerned with a nuke than driving a wedge between radicalism and the government of 70?million people.

A wildfire raging through the foothills and canyons of Northern California's coastal mountains roared into its sixth day on Monday, leaving at least two dozen homes in ruins and displacing thousands of residents after the fire more that doubled in size on Sunday.

The blaze, which has scorched about 93 square miles east of Lower Lake, a town about 110 miles north of San Francisco, was the fiercest of 20 large fires being battled by 9,000 firefighters across the state, officials said.

Capt. Don Camp of California's Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said containment of the fire in the Lower Lake area was at 12 percent Monday morning after being stuck at 5 percent for days.

"This is a very fast-moving wildfire," said Daniel Berlant, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention, or Cal Fire, on Sunday.

A separate blaze that killed a U.S. forest ranger on Thursday near the Oregon border has also expanded, but remains a fraction of the size of the Rocky fire, which erupted in Lake County on Wednesday and has proved the most destructive.

Cal Fire officials “are calling the behavior of this fire unprecedented,” Jason Shanley, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, told the Sacramento Bee. “It is jaw-dropping to see some of the things it is doing" in wind that is causing flames “to go in all different directions.”

Some 20,000 acres of scrub oak and brush ravaged by the Rocky fire over a five-hour period on Saturday night represented "unprecedented growth in that short amount of time," Berlant said. By Sunday evening, the blaze had blackened another 7,000 acres along the rugged eastern flanks of California's Northern Coast Ranges, officials said.

But in a small sign of optimism on Monday morning, firefighters were aided by lower temperatures and higher humidity, which allowed for the slight increase in the fire's containment.

Clutz at least came up with something, although, it's the only idea I've heard of that would have even less support in congress and would spark even wilder accusations than the Huckabee "Jews to the furnace" crap.

The deal ain't perfect but it's critics still don't have a better alternative.

I agree that my idea would have less support

People are too afraid of nukes. They are unlikely to be used. Biologicals are far scarier for a place like modern Iran (with its terror ties) to possess, and they basically need a few high-quality Ph.D.s a lab with a million dollars of funding and a few crazy people to conduct that kind of operation. That there is no such superflu etc roaming the West right now is proof strong evidence that they want the nuke primarily for deterrence.

Who cares? There is no way in hell that Trump will win. In fact, him winning the primaries is probably the best thing that could happen for the democrats.
