A very limited number of people are saying anything rational, the rest -> refer to my post. There are plenty of rational folk here, the problem is a tendency for people to read the thread title/OP and come in and post their immediate thoughts without engaging with people who've already responded. Get this kind of annoying circular debate where the same points keep coming up over and over again.

It's also a lot less tempting to reply to someone who just posts an excellent point rather than the two people between him who are spewing garbage. Thus the attention is diverted a bit to the arguing posts going back and forth.

You'd think an armed and twice as big guy could defend himself from an unarmed kid without killing anyone. If he goes free I expect a whole bunch of people to suddenly find him suspicious. Also, that law is pretty stupid. I'm sure people defended themselves just as eagerly before it, so where does the rise in "justified homicides" come from? Yeah, I think the Stand Your Ground law can be used against Zimmerman in the same way he used it against the black victim here. Anyone would find him suspicious now, what's to stop someone else from giving him an eye for an eye under the same circumstances?

What if it was white on white or black on black, shouldnt it still be investigated? Because if race is a provable issue, it is a hate crime, and is a federal offense that can be tried outside of Florida jurisdiction.

Well, if the trial happens on a federal level, perhaps the Stand Your Ground stuff wouldn't take effect, and something else would happen other than letting a man walk free after he stalked and killed another man. Edit: Also, how does it make sense for Zimmerman to follow Martin after Zimmerman described him as "suspicious?" Who follows suspicious people into back alleys? Sociopaths? That's kind of weird. Why doesn't someone ask him why he followed after Martin and carried his gun with him? Ugh, this is so disgusting.
