If you have ever played sports in your life you have heard the phrase "That team just got raped" and other phrases alike. I used it at 9 years old. If you haven't figured it out yet, thousands of words have many different meanings. I would never think twice about saying that X player just got raped by the other. All it means is he got outplayed by a big margin. | ||

Minority groups often "own" the terms which are used against them. That doesn't make their use by others acceptable. A rather non-offensive example: Foreigners in Japan may be called "gaijin", which has somewhat of a derogatory connotation (the proper, polite word being "gaikokujin"). The fact that foreigners tend to "own" that word and call each other gaijin is, in fact, not a free pass for Japanese to use it in an offensive way. | ||
