Riot does the same thing with the 4 team 'amateur' tournaments that they held before LCS games at MLG, Dreamhack, Gamescom, PAX etc. Why would you call teams that are in the top 8 - 15 on the continent amateur? And it's also impractical to have 5 teams labeled as pro and everyone else from open signup silver teams to experienced competitive teams like MYM or Curse be labeled together as amateur. Call them challenger, semi-pro, something else or don't call them anything but 'amateur' is really not a term you want to use to get people excited. | ||

When referring to these teams I always put "amateur" in brackets. What it means is "team not paid by Riot". But it has been like that since the start of LCS.
