LOL NO

You don't realize how expensive life is.

Right? People saying 15-20k per year is a lot of money... lol... come on. We aren't 15 here.

It is not a lot. It is enough to pay rent, food and public transport + a bit extra for a young man with no family to take care of.

All of which is payed for by the team (pro-gaming house duh?)

15-20k is nothing for anyone with a normal job. But don't underestimate how much of your money goes toward rent and food.

This. Although I can't see if its official that they make 15-20k or not. But that is 15-20k and then they get free housing\bills\etc (possibly also food? =p) And you then can make money off of streaming and prize money on top of that, not to mention you arguably do not have 'that much time' to go spending money also. And I would guess sponsors\teams also take care of any computer equipment and travel expenses to events, which leave4s you 15-20k to spend, + anything you bring in through prizepool\streaming. Some players, like Idra or Huk, would probably have no problem supporting themselves from Streaming alone. And then there is the prize money, where Idra is at about 18k€ demuslim at like 9k€, and huk at 26k€, and although none of these numbers are huge. They probably have more money coming in than they would be spending, and currently you do not get into progaming to get rich, which is something I think everybody knows.

But we're not talking about Norway. I make 350-400k NOK(60-70k USD) a year to get by by myself with no education at all. That money would make me a king in many countries, but you can't make that kind of a comparison...

Iknow, but Im just saying that you cant really live in Norway as a progamer with 15-25k USD a year....
If you get pro in Norway and dont have a job beside playing games you have to move to another country..
If you mess with the best... you die like the rest

If the training house supplies food, sure it may be ok. But lets be serious you are a pro gamer making 15k/y for 5 years that is a total of 75k (~50k after taxes) for 5 years of your life. If you save 100% of it, you would be on a nice start to a retirement plan. However after you finish your progaming career where do you go? You're ~25 with a pretty bad resume, your hope is to stay within the scene as a commentator, writer, etc. That savings you had over the course of 5 years will mostly used up by the time you get back on your feet.

Last but not least, lets say they practice 56 Hours per week (I'm sure some put in 70+). That comes just under $7 per hour, factor that in with they are the best in that particular field of work, its a very very small number even I can top that number by streaming.

I'm not saying progaming isn't lucrative, but 15k/y is a horrible estimate. Didn't Destiny say he gets at least 50k/y on his own?

Have you heard of a thing called a UNIVERSITY? It's a weird magical place that students that have finished High School go to in order to get something called a degraa... degrede?? Degree, that's the word. A degree. Which they later use to get a job.

Being 25 is not the end of the fucking world.

Being 25 and not having a foundation besides "I have very good APM and special tactics" is pretty detrimental for life overall.

so... go to university... seniors in high school don't have much of a foundation either. and guess what...

Actually the fact that your life isn't off to the greatest start is the problem with progaming. It doesn't seem realistic to say that you'll have a lot of savings, and if you don't want to be lonely for the rest of your life you'll want to have children, and children cost tons of money, which shouldn't be a problem if you're working your way up the work ladder, but oh wait "you're just a progamer, yeah my super important company wants you...not. You'll probably just game on the job."

Actually the Heart of the Swarm showmatch idea is one of the better ones to come up in 540 pages, especially with the timing of Blizzcon. LOL LIKE 2 MORE HOURS :D

lol guys.... thousands of PhD students survive on USD 15-20k per year stipends. And this includes payment for rent, food, and bills. Now imagine if you are a pro-gamer on a 15k-20k salary BUT rent, food, and bills are paid for.

And that's why Norway has no pro players, it's too expensive. Sad but true.

Why are people just copying my theory from a couple of pages ago and not acknowledging it. lol

But yeah this does seem like a good bet given the coincidence of Gamescom, if LiquidHuk isnt already back in Korea, maybe a Huk vs Idra(EG whoever) showmatch.

Well, Idra won't come to IEM and HuK just advanced in Code S. So I dont think something like this is going to happen...

Huh, well that throws a cold bucket of water over the whole thing.

If Blizzard did team up with EG to raise hype, before revealing a HotS showmatch at Gamecom. We would surely see EG's most popular player iDra playing in it........ unless Puma turns up

Also, new prediction: EG is going into selling medical marijuana in california and is using excess as salaries for players.

Ukraine is of the places where pro gaming is actually legit job even if they live on their own. Winning like 500 euros month is hell of money there.

Not if you manage to save up tourney winnings during that time and pay your tuition fees, and graduate debt-free.

Thats assuming you win a substantial amount of prize mone and just tuck it away in your little squirrel hole. And regardless its still a pretty bad spot to be in. 25 with no education, apartment of your own, car of your own, life(?) of your own because you've spent 60-70 hrs a week playing SC for the last 5 years? 4-5 years before education will be even close to being completely done, most likely, 29-30. Yeah you can pay tuition, books, things like that with the money that is "saved", but that money will dry up soon. And when it does? Whats that resume looking like? SC2 pro gamer for 5 years, just finished up a bachelors degree and still have a ways to go on the masters, and trying to support myself as a 27-29 year old man who hopefully budgeted my prize money from finishing in the ro16 in Code A (lets be realistic how many "pro gamers" will be in Korea, let alone qualifying for Code S). Not sure I'd be comfortable with my future.

15k a year sounds fine to me if you only have to practice 3 hours a day (like some of these guys did for a while) and aren't actually required to win shit. It's not like they have a coach which holds them accountable.

Also, Idra making 60k a year is a fucking joke. Guy puts in less work than a single player on any korean team and makes more than their whole team combined? The world is a cruel place.
