I can't believe this still is needed but religious and gun control side discussions will be met with harsh penalties from page 52 and onwards. |
Update from aftenposten.no:
"De (politiet) har mistanke om at dette ikke er internasjonal terrorisme, men en lokal variant rettet mot det bestående politiske systemet, ifølge NTB. Politiet skal være kjent med miljøet mannen er knyttet til."
"They (the police) have a suspicion that this is not a case of international terrorism, but a local variety aimed toward the standing political system, according to NTB. The police are said to know the society the man is connected to."
May not be the best translation, but you get the picture.

I just hope those bodies were infact swimming, because they looked pretty still to me :/ The best way to rest if you're tired from swimming is to lie on your back with your head tilted back / chin up, arms sort of open to your side and to just float. This requires almost no effort to stay afloat and breathe so them remaining still may not mean dead. Tredding water is another way to stay afloat but if these people swam hundreds of meters and aren't use to swimming I'm sure they could be really tired and just resting as well as tredding water can require a lot of energy if you don't know how to do it properly. Just trying to remain positive here. Aye, been thinking what was the best way to go for these kids. I'd say this was probably it, get far away enough to not be in range and then just float. I just hope that most the pictures are of people doing that and hiding... Well for anyone who isn't really physically fit in their upper and lower body or hasn't swam lots in their life, 700-800m (I think that was the distance) is an insanely long distance to swim. I'm sure with the panic too they sprinted from the shore until they tired out so it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that a lot are just resting and floating as they would've been in the water for a long time. I really hope this is the case. It's around 300 meters or so, according to one of the news channels in norway.

It's confirmed that he is norwegian.

Apparently most of those "bodies" were actually just clothes that the kids threw away before going to the water, which seems pretty reasonable to me at least. In those blurry images they just look like bodies.

I hope they find the bastards responsible. My deepest sympathies and prayers to the victims and families of those impacted by this tragedy.

Free people have always been at the mercy of lunatics. There is little that can be done to prevent these things, all you can do is pick up the pieces and carry on.
Technology has brought so much good into the world, but can also be used for evil. It gives a man the power to cure disease, or to kill hundreds.
If this does turn out to be a lone lunatic, we have to realize that his motivations are irrelevant; they are superseded by his insanity. We should take care to not use tragedy to make political arguments.

Bombing and 10 ppl got shot on the young socialist sommercamp. This is so terrible. I am myself a young socialist. I know some of them in norway. All my thoughts go to their friends and family. Norway be strong, young socialists in norway be strong.

Yes, if you are a Party Leader in Norway you meet these people all the time and you also talk to a lot of these young people.

Norway is such a strong country.. Respect for all of you out there.

If there is some interesting Q&A:s please share. Can't listen to it right now!
|
Sure, I'll try to translate as best as possible as it goes. Barely anything is quoted correctly, I'm only writing the jist of it:
--
Journalist: What are your thoughts concerning the terrorist group taking responsibility?
PM: That they're claiming responsibility doesn't necessarily mean anything. They may only want to get PR.
---
PM: We need to dare take part in political discussions even if it's controversial. We can't let us be scared to silence by violence.
---
Journalist: Do we have a law for mass murder?
Minister of Justice/Law: We have a new law which counts for more things but I want to be careful to which extent it counts for this matter.
---
Has the government been rendered useless due to the attack?
PM: No, everything has worked as it should in this given situation. We've been prepared. However, I want to set focus on that people listen to the police and the institutions whose fields these are. Their advice is to stay away from the center of Oslo, stay at home etc.
---
Didn't get the question.
PM: It's still too early to say how many has died. We need to base our statements on the numbers given by the police. We do not want to mention specific departments in order to let the police notify their closest first.
---
PM: I'd want to pay my respects to those who were at work, doing their job for the nation. The youth whose latest hours we can't even imagine how terrible must've been. (seems touched)

thank god he was white (not 100%)

Jens Stoltenberg is handling the situation very well, he is saying the answer to these kinds of attacks is more democracy more openess. He's also emphasizing the right of youths to engage in political discussion, and that youths engaging in political discussion is one of the most peaceful things there are, and to attack that makes the attack even even more disgusting.
