I can't believe this still is needed but religious and gun control side discussions will be met with harsh penalties from page 52 and onwards. |
My deepest, sincerest sympathies.
Though the motives and perpetrators are completely different, this feels eerily similar to that day in Blacksburg, VA...1 killed, 2, 7, 30+...It pains me to think about it.
Sadly, this appears to be so much worse. Stay strong! The world is with you!

The OP is a little outdated with info, if anyone at Norway or something could get a good recap up, I'd appreciate it. Working nights and you really miss out on the morning's happenings. >< Yeah, I want to figure out exactly what is happening. It would be much appreciated.

I've been using that and this thread to keep up to date. TPM live wire will link to the news service running the story, so it's more reliable than twitter.

Then again it doesn't matter who did it or for what reasons since the outcome is still the same, a lot of dead innocent civilians.
Read about extremist tactics. Impersonations of army/police personnel is in fact an incredibly common tactic. Within the past couple of weeks multiple Afghan officials have been murdered by impersonators.

The fear these children have felt, and the pain, the panic....how can someone ever recuperate from that, mentally I couldn't finish my dinner, I just feel so helpless. I wish I could go there and hold them, save them. Im usually pretty jaded to these events, but I guess it being close to home coupled with me being so damn far away from home right now, makes this feel different....

It's tiny, it seems it's main purpose was just for people to chill at camp

It was a summer camp for kids. The island is like 4 cabins and 2 square km. Cops really not needed (usually)

That would be impressive. Knee jerk reaction is this isnt true but its also not impossible. But if it is true its not just a crazy with a gun. Contary to popular belief its not a simple thing as point shoot and kill. If a person get kill shots on 20 moving targets hes been trained and trained well. According to witnesses, the gunman executed many of the victims and got people to come towards him.. Besides, it doesn't take much training to kill 20 people using an assault rifle with optics. 20 shots on a crowd of people really isn't hard. It doesn't take a "well trained" Special Operations operator or something. Look at the VA Tech shooting. That guy killed around 30 people with handguns - no assault rifle. All it takes is plenty of ammunition and about a week at a shooting range to learn how to efficiently shoot targets from 50-100m out. Anyway, I'm not reading 20+ kills. So far there are 7 confirmed deaths. Killing another human being and shooting at a practice range aren't the same thing at fucking all. I can cut a piece of meat but I sure as hell can't slit a throat. Every army has special training to make soldiers be able to shoot at targets without hesitating, as they found out a fucking majority couldn't shoot at the nazis in WWII. It doesn't take a week at the shooting range to murder 30 people, who the fuck do you think you're kidding? I think you are really exaggerating the difficulty of this... We are talking about young individuals at close range who are trapped on a small island, with several minutes to shoot. It's absolutely disgusting... Im not exaggerating anything. The differance is you think i know. I have 7 years in and 4 combat deployments and im telling you flat out that getting a killshot isnt as easy as point and shoot. Now if the reports were 7 dead 20 wounded it would be believable. But the reports they are talking about say 20+ dead. Now in my 1st post on it i said i doubt he actually killed that many BUT if its true the guy had to have had training.
To raise the point though if people are swimming away any kind of bullet wound would probably cause enough trauma and shock to make the person drown. I am really really hoping it is like 7 dead 20 wounded instead of the other way around, but this whole thing makes me feel sick.

Has anybody heard more about the car that was surrounded at Gardermoen Airport? I think I posted that question several pages ago, but I didnt get to see if there were any replies...

This sounds like a plot for a really bad movie. I didn't think people were capable of doing this... just shocking

This is from the guard who let the fake policeman over gonna do super quick translation:
Det kommer en silvergrå skåpbil. I den sitter en polisman iförd polisuniform och skottsäker väst. Han kommer ut ur bilen och visar legitimation och säger att han är utsänd för att kontrollera säkerheten, att det är en ren rutinhandling med anledning av terrorangreppet. Allt ser trovärdigt ut och en båt tillkallas som kör över honom till Utöya. Sen gick det några minuter och vi hörde skottlossning, säger vakten Brænden Mortensen till VG.
A silvergrey van came. In it a policeman sits with uniform and kevlar. He shows ID and says that he is sent out to controll the safety and that it's rutin. Everything looks believable and a boat is summoned that takes him to Utöya. Then a couple of minutes passed and we heard gunshots says the guard Braenden Mortensen.
They also confirm he is under costudy and that he is about 1.9M tall, blond hair looked norwegian and was in his 30-40's. And he spoke with a norweigian dialect.

I think they were hiding. Im not sure.

Apparently there were 700 people there, unless that's all wrong. Doesn't seem that nuts to have some sort of police or enforcement if not just for health reasons.
