Link leads to a blizzard site that gives you a link for a download for a registry key, that supposedly fixes your colours. Code below + Show Spoiler + [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectDraw\Compatibility\StarCraft116] "Name"="StarCraft.exe" "ID"=hex:ca,89,65,49 "Flags"=hex:00,08,00,00

omg I remember what a huge mess that was when it first came out... here's hoping for the best. If it does work, I do have to give props to Blizzard for finally taking action to fix something and not leaving its faithful BW community out to dry.

First of all, this "fix" has been out a while and it's been posted numerous times in this thread. And I can't see the date of this news on their site, but this registry file was on their FTP servers since December 02, 2010. Also, this is fix only for color issues (I think it doesn't even work for everyone), it doesn't do anything with "freezing" problems. And the funniest thing is that Blizzard is getting credit here, when they didn't even came up with this solution in the first place (source: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1054365/exclusive-directdraw-palette-isnt-actually-exclusive ). Well, the positive thing is that someone from Blizzard department actually looked for the solution on Internet and included this file in their official help and support forums, which is to say that someone there still cares about BW I guess. But all in all, this thread should be closed as it contains nothing new and is highly misleading. For Windows 7 problems with BW, refer to this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=93382 (especially last few pages).

And funniest thing is, they list StarCraft and StarCraft:BroodWar as Compatible on Windows 7: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Software&p=Starcraft&v=Blizzard Entertainment&uid=1&l=en&pf=0&pi=0&s=Starcraft&os=32-bit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Software&p=Starcraft: Brood War&v=Blizzard Entertainment&uid=&pf=0&pi=0&s=Starcraft&os=32-bit Maybe we should send them some negative feedback and they'll listen to us!

BTW, for those thinking that Blizzard has "gave up" on Brood War - you're wrong fellows. Blizzard still supports games like Diablo I and WarCraft II Battle.Net Edition and patches them when needed. I wouldn't be surprised to see patches and fixes come out for Diablo II long after we're "done with" Diablo III. They just care ! :D

Do you see rainbow or washed out colors in StarCraft on Windows 7? If you are experiencing washed out or rainbow colors in StarCraft, forcing Windows DirectDraw to run the game under a compatibility mode may resolve your issue. We have a pre-set registry key that you can apply to enable it. 32-bit Windows 7 - http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/starcraft/scbw116_x86.reg 64-bit Windows 7 - http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/starcraft/scbw116_x64.reg Save the registry file on your desktop, then double-click on it to apply the key. Once it is applied, start the game. If you do not know if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows, click on your Start menu, then right-click on Computer and select Properties. The window that pops up will tell you if you're running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows. Note: This registry key will only work for StarCraft version 1.16. If you have an earlier or later version, the compatibility mode will not work. It also does not work on the game's cinematics. Alt+tabbing may cause it to go back to having washed out or rainbow colors. Solution ID: 36371
