Gaming is traditionally a cheap past time, but it also used to be a lot more make it and forget it approach for companies. For SC2, we need tech support, server maintenance, and loads of other costs for years and years to come. Yet for all that we're paying $60, (maybe $60 more for each expansion) which is rather inexpensive for all the expectations we have for it. We've all spent $60 on some crap game that was never heard of again in a years time. Let's be honest...we have a huge consumer surplus when purchasing games like SC2 and Broodwar. (Consumer surplus is the amount of benefit over what you paid that you gained from buying at that price) $60 is a night out at the bar, or in Activision's view, thousands of hours that you got from their game. They could charge more for it, and almost rightfully will. They are not really destroying the game or community, they are just making it a more expensive hobby. If we truly support SC2, we should be willing to pay the extra couple dollars every now and then to keep the community alive. If we are not willing to, then SC2 as an esport will die, which kind of translates to all that loyal fanbase mumbo jumbo as being not worth very much. Companies don't care if you're excited about their game, they care they you will support them with your dollar.

A) I don't have to pay a subscription or anything else beyond purchasing the game itself. + Show Spoiler + Blizzard: Battle.net 2.0 now requires $20 montlhy subscription fee LOLOLOL. B) The game is "Blizzard" quality. C) Blizzard continues to support the Starcraft franchise (patches, expansions, etc..) then I will continue to support blizzard and the titles they release (except WoW). The day one of those rules are broken is the day I know for a fact Blizzard sold out and its time to move onto another company that gives a damn about their customers.

I just hope SC2's expansions come out before SC2 gets dragged into this. If there ever become premium portraits or units or ANYTHING, I'll practically quit SC2 immediately. portraits I don't care about, but if they ever did that for like multiplayer or something (units, maps, etc). I would be very disappointed. I do not think Blizzard well let that happen, and can only hope. I really hate activision and was sad too see blizzard merge with them. Their just a bad company, a lot worse then EA thats for sure. Well, I did read in an interview that they are probably going to scrap or at least delay indefinitely the map marketplace idea, so perhaps that might be a decent sign. Well I don't' care about UMs's if they do that (as it would be the map makers choice, not blizzard unless I mis read completely on their "map marketing" idea.) I was more meaning like ladder maps or something. I have faith in blizzard that they won't let activision force them too do something that dumb like activsion does to every call of duty ^_^.

The comment is at 50:16. Here's a link: http://gameshark.libsyn.com/jumping-the-shark-episode-62 Has anyone else heard about this? Couldn't find anything on TL. Starcraft has sold over 5 million copies on a platform that you don't have to pay any license fees for, of course it is worth it. However, compared to WoW, Starcraft 2 is a very small part of Blizzard's overall revenue. WoW went from 98% of Blizzard's revenue in 2009, to 89% in 2010. Also keep in mind that not only did WoW generated 9 times as much money as Starcraft 2 last year, the profit margins for WoW is probably a lot higher. At the end of the day Starcraft is still very profitable for Blizzard, even though it can't compare to World of Warcraft. Very few games, if any, can. I would imagine that WoW creates the most profit of any game ever, and possibly more than any other entertainment (TV, Music etc.) 1 game, 3 expansions, 15 dollar monthly sub (millions of subscribers) and plenty of micro transactions and spin-offs (Comics, cards, boardgames) Whenever i think about this i wonder, why doesn't sc2 have lan support when blizzard is rolling in millions -_-.

Activision and Vivendi games merged. Vivendi games = Blizzard + Sierra Entertaiment. Now their company is called Activision Blizzard. But since that merge they still operate like separate companies and publish their own games. On the contrary Sierra got pwned and doesn't exist anymore.

Without the actual development costs it's hard to say at which point Starcraft II is profitable. The game has been in development for many years. But it's not only the development, you also have to take battle.net 2.0 into account, the whole server architecture, and so on. I could image that Starcraft II hasn't generated much real profit for the company yet.

And its not only the kiddos that have to much money and don't know where to burn it. The ones that want to stay on top and be the best are even worse. I mean paying 1200 dollar for a rare item that makes you immune to magic. I mean when you directly write to companies hey let me pay you 50 euro so that i can become a paying customer (server transfer for characters). Then you don't have to wonder that they charge 25 euro for this server and have the premium member fee (for normal exp rates) upped from 7 to 9 euro. So its simple don't pay more for free 2 play servers, then you would pay for pay to play and you are not destroying the gameindustrie in your search for fake power x3 .But we all know that this isn't going to happen and that in reality alot of people bought WoL 3 times because they didn't wanted to wait for the expansions to play in the other regions .
