Then there is the possibility of breaking into a market, return on the investment isn't promised. Exactly this, I would think that if their return on the dollar was atleast like $1.20 then why would they want to change sc2. Sure other strategies may be more profitable but that doesnt mean there is reason to scrap a less (but still) profitable one. For a company like activision I'm sure they have the resources to do both..

For a company like activision I'm sure they have the resources to do both.. Don't be so sure on it -- they have limited resources in their relative sense, and producing a couple of random games using resources Starcraft 2 is taking up could easily be a better return, especially considering most games don't need technical support the way SC2 will for years to come. WoW is just raking in such a ridiculous amount of revenue that anything else seems like chump change to them, and you can't really blame them for trying to apply some of the things that made WoW a financial success into SC2. All that stuff about loyal fanbase....well it seems like they're cashing in on it now.

If there ever become premium portraits or units or ANYTHING, I'll practically quit SC2 immediately. portraits I don't care about, but if they ever did that for like multiplayer or something (units, maps, etc). I would be very disappointed. I do not think Blizzard well let that happen, and can only hope. I really hate activision and was sad too see blizzard merge with them. Their just a bad company, a lot worse then EA thats for sure.

eventually every game will simply require a button to press and everyone will be a winner. increasingly depressed by what gaming has become, given it has been my only focus since i was 10. to see it in this state... waste of my life.

Well, I did read in an interview that they are probably going to scrap or at least delay indefinitely the map marketplace idea, so perhaps that might be a decent sign.

In this case, would Activison be able to affect Blizzard at all or is it Vivendi that calls the shots? I found the interview Link to Diablo Inc (Which Flux posted about): MCV: Has life changed, post-Activision merger? Activision said they’d bought Blizzard because they liked how you operated and they’d leave you alone – and it turned out that this wasn’t BS. Frank Pearce: Don’t say Activision bought Blizzard – now you’ve got Mike riled… Mike Morhaime: Our parent company Vivendi bought Activision. MCV: Well, after whatever happened happened, what’s life been like? Mike Morhaime: We wouldn’t have supported the merger had we not believed Bobby and Activision understood how special Blizzard is and weren’t supportive of our values. We were convinced that they did, that the two businesses were complementary and that we wouldn’t be giving up our creative autonomy in any way. And that’s exactly how it has panned out. MCV: How do you feel when Bobby takes flak for not being sympathetic or empathetic to the creative elements of this industry? Mike Morhaime: I have an advantage there because I know Bobby personally and we have very long, in-depth conversations, so my view of him is not limited to small sound bites taken out of context. I can tell you that Bobby has been very supportive of Blizzard and that we have a great relationship with him. I don’t think the public image that some people have of him is fair or accurate.

Does it hurt you if before the game on loading screen your opponent has a different colored / new / unique portrait? It will make you lose the game? It will make him overpowered, faster or stronger? Not like blizz will ever let it happen to buy "better" units. Think for the sake of the human race already. User was temp banned for this post.

I really hope this doesn't lead to Blizzard making console trash or ridiculous money whoring subscriptions.
