Maybe it is because the new season. Maybe I am just playing against that minority that doesn’t gg. Or maybe people don’t gg anymore.
I am curious here. I have played multiple ladder games and much more custom games in season 2. And I think that only 40% of my wins the opponent types gg. It is not that it bothers me a great deal, but it leaves a bad taste after a game. I also add that I rarely cheese, only ZvP on 2 maps.
I guess my biggest problem is that a game mentally ends for me when the opponent types gg. I completely relax and I am happy, when they just leave it doesn't feel the same. I don't know, it is probably overreacting on my part. But I don't see myself leaving without typing gg, unless I react extremely bad against a cheese and am extremely mad on myself for playing bad, which makes me leave Bnet and turn of my computer.
Let’s be honest here and try to estimate how much you type gg after you lost. Give me a percentage with some additional information.
Is everybody experiencing the same? I am currently around world rank 6000 in masters and without kidding a maximum of 40% type gg before they leave.

Never gg.

I just let my opponent type it for me while they're destroying my world.

There is no rule that you have to gg. Get over it...
Period.

Can you give me one that isn't 2 months old and it about this specific? I typed in gg in the search bar and it wasn't really a succes.
Why would you never gg?
|
I'm there with you...I never get GGs from anyone anymore I still gg....it's just a common courtesy, concede to whoever beat you.
|
do as my irl friend does when he is about to win
"you can gg now"
he is so BM <3
|
it`s a manner thing ... some folks will never get it.
|
I used to always GG out of every single game (apart from cannon rushes/weird proxy things, and sometimes even those if I'm in a good mood). Recently I've switched to zerg, and I often get really really frustrated with my losses (no balance whine, just saying I should be able to hold certain strats). I now rarely gg before I surrender, unless I genuinely thought it was a gg or if again, I'm in a good mood.
I just get too frustrated autolosing to stuff like 2port banshee, 4gate or 6gate because I didn't scout well enough or built like 1 round of drones too many. I do always gl hf before the game. It's not meant as ragequit or as insult to whatever build the opponent did, I just get too frustrated with myself losing to that stuff to gg.
|
I only GG if it was actually a good game. 4gates, spine rushes, bunker rushes can all go to hell.
|
I don't say GG when I leave, usually because I get pretty ticked off when I lose, since I know I'm the one messing everything up. I leave before I have the chance to BM my opponent, opening a chat box makes me want to type BM 90% of the time when I lose. Nothing bad like cussing the other guy out or whatever, just usually passive-agressive stuff.
Altogether I probably type GG 10% of the time. Usually if a game is close, I'll type it, but if I'm supply blocking myself around every corner, miscontrolling my units, etc. I won't type it.
Now, whenever I play other people, they might type GG 50% of the time, with 10% of the time being BM and 40% just being straight up quitting. I haven't noticed a difference between the beta/release and now, though. Maybe it's just you?
Oh, and I usually GG to cheese. Weird, I know. Just saying.
|
Pretty much yeah. Still not cool though. Even if it's a ladder that doesn't mean you don't have to type out. But yeah, no biggie just get over it. I always type out, except sometimes when i'm playing so badly that i just ragequit simple as that.
|
typed glhf to this zerg guy once and he lol's asking me if i'm trying to be nestea blah blah in the end he he wins and i GG
too many egotistical pricks in the lower end ladders tbh I always glhf and gg even if it's a bad loss =/
|
noticed it too none ever types gg anymore (including myself) in masters which was alot different from when it was beta.
|
|
I type gg 90% of the time when I leave, sometimes when im getting tired and ends up in a loss streak, I often just ragequit the last one without gg, but otherwise always.
|
I haven't gotten a gg in a verry long time. I don't play many games, so it is quite memorable. I really don't care though, in fact one might say it is a confidence booster. You destroyed them so hard they rage quit. ^^ I jest..
|
If the game was good then I GG, if it was just me messing up I don't see a reason to GG.
|
I gg if I think it was a good game. About 80% of the time I'll do it, but if I played awfully or the game was very one sided, then I won't. I don't believe in gging just for the sake of being "manner". To me, it takes the meaning out of the phrase if I just use it all the time even if the game is bad - to the point that I don't really think it's good mannered if you use it that way.
|
Hell most ladder games I just get flamed as soon as it starts. "GL HF" has been replaced with "Fuck you newb" as the start up greeting it seems.
|
People, myself included, have stoped even writing to eachother ingame. There's no gl hf, and no gg in the end. Battle.net is so nonpersonal you might as well be playing against bots. I don't feel the need to gg and I don't blame my opponent for not doing it.
|
theres no point for GG in ladder, thats my view on it. You lose, you get out and go into the next game right away (or analyze the replay right away)..
GG is for tournaments or events.. but generally I dont gg in ladder unless I know the opponent and/or want to chat with him afterwards about the game.
|
I only GG when it was actually a good game. If I get cheesed or lose due to my own mess up I don't say GG because more than likely they didn't play one.
|
I GG 85% of my games, I dont mind if you GG or not but IF you GG before me when you are winning....I hope you burn...
|
I gg after a game involving macro/micro, i don't when someone cheese me.
|
I only GG Zerg and Terran players if I don't get all ined (if I do I just leave). Protoss I either leave or BM lol, too frustrated playing ZvP atm =/.

So many people that don't gg anymore it seems. Sadness.
On a positive note (after reading all these comments), it seems that people still hf gl in the start.

too many games in sc2 turn out so retarded that they just dont deserve a gg

I say gg just as much for myself as my opponent. Helps me realize that whatever he did was fair and I should get over it and accept the loss. Also I just prefer to be manner.

I hadn't really noticed until you brought it up, but yeah, I have been getting fewer of them.
Also, I've been getting more "#*&@^ you"s whenever I start the game with gl hf. ... don't know what to say about that.

And if soemone does a 4 gate or some other cheese and says gg before the end, then expect abuse and a block cummunication after.
|
I recently decided to test something. I always gl hf at the beginning of every game and the opponent will gl hf or gl me back like 95% of the time.
However, I stopped gl hf 'ing to see what would happen. and only about 10% of people would gl hf at the beginning.
So all along I thought people were more mannered than they actually were; they were just humoring me!
gg is kind of a funny thing. If you 4gate (or some other kind of rush) them and kill them, they will gg a very small portion of the time; if they are zerg, they probably won't gg you because all of your units are imba xD Some you hit on the ladder are just not going to GG you no matter what; if you beat the same guy a couple of times over the course of a few weeks/month/what have you, he might resent you and it somehow becomes a personal thing. SC2 is a funny thing
|
I don't GG unless it was a game I felt I played the best I could and lost.
4 gate. 6 gate. proxies. 2 base timing attacks. ling baneling all in. all too frustrating and I just want to move on to the next one. If I had a 30 minute macro game where he dropped me i dropped him he attacks i counter we expand all over i always gg
|
"sorry" if i played really awful, "g" if I am unhappy with my performance or feel like he doesn't deserve it hehe. otherwise a "gg". If i thing the game was epic i tend to make a supply GG xD. (the one you can see on the minimap ^.^ )
you can almost be sure that you don't get anything except bad manner, if the person doesn't say anything at the start.
|
I gg about 50% of the time. I'm rather easily pissed off about performing badly or losing to some bullshit i absolutely should not lose to. (Canon rushes, early roach pushes, defending a 4gate then managing to lose the pvp etc)
I GG if i felt i played pretty well, and still got beaten, so my opponent clearly played better. I gg if we had a friendly conversation up ahead, meaning I know the guy is a nice person, who deserve a gg :p
I do not gg when people do agressive gg's or say something rude in general.
Master league if that matters

Simple observation: why should one type "GG" when they found the game bad? I blatently type "BG" when I played horribly.
|
I'm a very nice loser when I've been genuinely beaten. I usually strike up a conversation and ask what I did wrong etc etc. Of course I end it with a gg.
But when I lose to stupid abusive builds I bm the whole time. Mass air (banshees or void rays) is especially infuriating, because if they catch you unprepared they get infinity kills.
|
Honestly, I've gg'd every game I've lost except one. Against a guy named IKILLU, after I typed "glhf" he responded "fuck u," and he went hellion/marauder into cloaked banshee and won. I decided to leave that one without a gg.
But I have noticed the gg frequency going down. On the one hand, I would think people like to imitate what they see the players do in tournaments, where the loser gg'ing is standard. Then again, people would probably rather imitate the winner than the loser.
Partially I think it's the mindset that the laddering puts you in. The mass gaming just to be able to spend your bonus pool or whatever. And the fact that there are a lot of new players, who either don't know or understand why gg'ing is even done, or don't really care.
edit: also relevant, I almost never get a gg back when I do gg upon losing. I don't know if I leave too fast, but I don't think that's the case. I think gg is just fading out of use.

why say gg when I can accuse people of cheating instead? xD

Perhaps because the battle.net laddering system leaves you free to play games against essentially anonymous people is all the more reason to say just a few words at the start and end of the game, to help combat this very feeling. It's to say that if others don't say anything, you won't say anything, since someone has to start, right?
I dislike it when people don't 'gg', as for me it cheapens the victory as I have to assume they ragequit because they played badly or something, which means my victory is something meaningless.

Maybe they don't gg because to them, it wasn't a good game? More importantly, does it even matter?
|
When I say GG I actually mean it. Almost no one means it when they say it. It's like people don't even realize it means "Good Game". So what's the point of saying gg just because people say gg? there's no reason unless you acually respect his game and think it was good. If I lose a macro game I will most likely give my opponnent a golden star, aka GG (unless he went for VR/colo TT). But if I get 4 gated and lose ofc I'm not gonna give the douche a gg.
|
Yup definitely noticed it. Seems like such a shame because on sc1, people are so mannered. ><"
I guess there's no point to typing gg but it's nice to be friendly and mannered.

I forgot to say it once out of ~9 losses yesterday The people I win against don't GG very often, though

I don't gg on ladder.
Tournaments and LANS are another thing though. Why do people get so butt hurt when you don't GG on ladder?

I don't say GG if it wasn't a good game, plain and simple. Why be well mannered when you've got someone cheesing you? I think FU is a more appropriate response.

I gg 90% of my games
most of my opponent just leave, resulting around only 30% of the players GG. From what i see, players from SEA tends to type gg more often after the games end. Well, the sample size is small so... yeah haha

just dont worry too much about it. Some people just don't like to GG. Nothing else to it.

This is actually exactly what I've noticed too lol. I used to start each game with "gl hf" and I got it back as a response, but for some reason I've stopped doing it 100% of the time this season and I've noticed that there are lots of games where neither of us say a single word.

People add to much value to things like "GLHF" and "GG". I don't really make a point of GGing and don't expect ppl to GG when losing to me. I find it quite patronising expecting a GG from someone.
If a pro SC2 player leaves a game without GGing and you take a look at the comments, then its always about how BM'd the player is and not actually about the match that was just played. Manners don't make you play better. I like watching matches of players because they are skilled, not because they polite.

Good game has come to mean more than 'you played a good game of technical skill' its a concession. Like saying thank you when someone hands you something, you don't evaluate if they deserve it... you just say it.
Obviously you don't 'have' to say it but a lot of gamers will think you are BM... just like not saying thanks in RL, you dont have too but its polite.
|
i never gg on ladder unless it was an actual good game, what i dont understand is why people care if i dont say gg in ladder :o in bw and wc3 i never said gg ever and i never got flamed in postgame chat after it... tbh when people are BM and harassing me/rubbing it in my face saying "why no gg?" after game then i am glad i didnt gg to some nerd. For some reason people think leaving without saying gg = rage, i dont care at all to write 2 meaningless letters and i dont care if my opponent doesnt gg and i dont assume he is angry either
|
When someone doesn't gg I get extra satisfaction out of their rage/frustration, it just makes victory even sweeter for me. So I make sure to never give that satisfaction to others, I always gg.
|
I think one of the conclusions from the previous threads on this same topic was that on the EU server people gg a lot less than on NA in comparison. I also stopped doing manner gg and only rarely gg if I thought it was a good game.
As for the a possible explanation? I think in general, as the game is out longer everyone sort of starts to know why they lost and what they did wrong. Realizing that probably makes it harder to gg because you feel you didn't play well at all considering your mistakes are painfully obvious. So as time goes on and more people start to feel and act in this very manner, the quantity of ggs one can be expected to encounter diminishes gradually.

Personally I GG when i feel like the other guy earned it, even if it was just doing something small which I didn't expect. It does mean good game after all.

I think i've gg'd every game i've ever played, except one which I got disconnected this past week, with battle.net acting up. Even if the guy trolls me, I just gg every time. I also don't really mind when they don't gg. The only thing that annoys me are people who offensive gg. That's pretty BM in my book, only assholes do that. But I still gg those people when I leave lol.
also i pretty much never cheese in 1v1. i've never 6 or 7 pooled, except a couple times when playing 3v3 with my 2 zerg friends, which is rare since we haven't completed our placement matches yet.

Hmmmm.... I almost always GG unless its some kind of 6pool/double proxy gate bullshit. However, if someone offensive GGs me, I float to the corner and go browse the interwebz lmfao... be gm people, only I can carry the [bm] tag :D

I don't usually gg when I win since they leave before I can.
|
I don't get why some silly house rules from bw are forced upon us when playing ladder. I couldn't care less about it. If I don't gg it doesn't mean I'm raging, and it doesn't mean I'm disprespecting my opponent. It means I don't think the game was good. Which is what gg means after all.
|
I only GG if my opponent had more then 1 base when he killed me.
|
why would you gg in a ladder game unless you really felt it was a good game. is neded only for tournaments or official games imo.
|
I play a lot of custom matches, it's a big surprise to me when I get a GG at the end of the game. People give the reason that as it's only a custom game, there's no need to GG.
Yet on ladder people that I've played tend to be annoyed they've lost points and either leave with a bitter comment or without a word.
I think everyone skips a GG now and then, but it's the stupid insults at the end of the game that are annoying. From my limited experience it seems master league players are the worst when it comes to justifying their loss based on racial balance or tactics.
|
I usually don't GG or even say GL HF. I dont wanna say it, just to say it. When I play tourneys I always say it of course, but laddering is different for me. It's just another random opponent who I will probably never talk to again. And personally I couldn't care less if the person says GL HF or not.
|
It's basic ettique. I gg every game regardless. But sometimes I do let my emotions get the better of me.

I only gg if it's true, when I get 2gate allin'd I don't. Always start with gg hf though, it's a manner thing.

Since I never gg either, it feels really stupid when people gg and stay in the game like they're waiting for me to type gg. : )

I only GG when it was a good game.. PvP 4gate v 4gate doesn't deserve a gg.. If the game was shorter than 12 minutes, it doesn't deserve a gg either.
|
I type GG 100% of the time even if i get cheesed or anything else, i mean even if i play bad and do not think it was a good game no need to take anything away from my opponent who did the necessary to win, no matter how gay or frustrating it was. A win is a win, and a loss requires one to type GG, imo.

GG is overrated in my opinion. It is so common that has lost its true meaning. If I have a good game and lose I will gg but that is rare. Normally I don't gg unless I win and the opponent says it first.
It is nothing personal for me, I am just bored to type it for a shitty game I played. The same applies for gl hf.

Yeah I only gg if I mean it. Otherwise it's a stale, unfelt, and uncaring way of saying "I lose." if you say it every single game.
Most games I will type out "good game" since the true meaning of "gg" has been destroyed by overusage.

I gg whenever I lose the game, even if the opponent takes me by cheesing, but I now think that might be too kind for them...

If only that was true, and that is the problem. I forgot to add this in the OP. But after a really good game against protoss. 4 Bases both and I went ling bling corrupter broodlord. A really action packed game. My opponent leaves without gg. I typed to him why he thought it wasn't a gg, and back then I didn't even believed yet there were people that don't gg because there is no rule to gg... He replies and curses me, telling me I was BM to message him... But it doesn't matter whether the game itself was good or not, it comes down to the loser's perception. He lost, therefore it wasn't a good game for him which you can understand. Not everyone can and will step back after losing and rationalise how entertaining/good the game was. People just think and act differently and there's no correct/wrong way to end a game. People get too hung up on this bm stuff.

I haven't seen a gg from an opponent for... I think months now. Everyone just rage quits and calls you a noob for beating them.

i want my gg to actually mean something instead of being a random formality. i gg when it's a good game.

If I don't gg it doesn't mean I'm raging, and it doesn't mean I'm disprespecting my opponent. It means I don't think the game was good. Which is what gg means after all. It's not a "silly house rule from bw"; saying gl hf / gg is pretty customary in every online game.

"gg" only is necessary in friendly cg's or tourney games imo. Srsly, I dont care about "glhf, gg" etc. in ladder games. As long as you dont flame or whine when u lose, everything is alright.
|
I never gg ladder. If I was seeing the same opponents over and over and developed rivalries and what not i would. I don't see a reason to GG a random player on the ladder that I will never play again. to me gg has signified tournament games where you are conceeding victory. In ladder exit game automatically gives t hem the win so i don't see a reason to gg.

Always do the glglhf and most often gg in tournys, except for the times when i rage (not that often rly). Ladder, I only 'gg', if I'm not frustrated due to me playing bad or my opponent doing something cheesy. Pretty much comes down to, was it a good game? Then I'll gg.
No point in lying is there ?
