This.
I just get whatever looks good while i wander around. Grocery lists are for people who plan their lives out way too much. Or people not too lazy to write up lists. ^^

I go to the market every day or once every two days. It's just easier to live this way in Japan--Japanese products are extremely fresh and have very short shelf lives due to a lack of preservatives. Here are the foods I usually buy at the market:
Staples: Buy when I run out, often times daily Eggs Olive oil Green tea Black coffee (my guilty pleasure) Whole milk (4.5%; depending on my diet at the time)
Fatty Proteins: Buy 1 per shopping trip Chicken drumsticks Ground beef Steak Beef shortribs Beef boned ribs Bacon Pork and beef sausage Salmon (rarely) Tuna (rarely) Ikura (salmon eggs; rarely)
Lean(er) Proteins: Buy 1-2 per shopping trip Boneless skinless chicken breasts Porkchops Shrimp Scallops (rarely) Halibut
Vegetables: Buy 3-4 per shopping trip Sweet potatoes Onions Spinach Cabbage Avocados Tomatoes Mixed salad Bell peppers Eggplant
Fruits: Buy 1 item every three days, unless I'm dieting Apple Orange Banana Strawberries (usually I go for these for the health benefits)
This is all I buy at the store, unless I'm forgetting something. My general cooking practice is to throw some olive oil in a pan, add a cut up protein, brown it, lower the heat, throw in 2-3 veggies, season everything, cover for 3-4 minutes, and eat.

veggies:
garlic spinach rucola broccoli cauliflower iceberg salad celery red onion
meat:
ground beef (20% fat) tuna (canned in oil) bacon salmon
oil / fats:
avocado oil olive oil coconut fat butter mayonnaise pesto
That's about it. I'm on ketosis for personal reasons, and I've learned to cook delicious foods

habenero tobasco + mayonaise lol.
About the only 2 things i buy frequently. I eat whatever im in the mood for.
Oh maybe tuna and noodles too.

I have one of those weird fast metabolisms that skinny guys get so I have to eat lots of cheap big meals. Here is some kind of layout.
Proteins Ground beef Eggs (my mom has a free egg suplyer so I eat a ton) Canned Beans (Really tasty if you fry some ham in the pot and mix it all) Chicken (if it is cheap or on sale) Canned Tuna, Oysters or Sardines. (Bought in bulk and consumed infrequently)
Carbohydrates Rice (usually white but I have brown in my house if I want to eat a meal that tastes terrible) Oats(Eaten with breakfast) Pasta (I make a lot of pasta sauce with the aforementioned ground beef) Bread (my girlfriend buys and eats this)
Fruits and Veggies Spinach Kale Yams Potatoes Onions Bananas Apples (some)
Other Protein shakes (I make them out of orange juice, frozen blueberries, yogurt, and powder.) Liquor I have a stash of vanilla coke I brought back from the States

I like to buy a lot of different things... Salami Pizza Peperoni-Salami Pizza Ham Pizza Hawaii Pizza
Also, some Gouda and Salami to put on the Pizza.
I sometimes mix it up even further with spring rolls, french fries or spaghetti.
Dinner for one is boring

If you don't mind me asking, how much do you spend on food a month? I've heard that it's very cheap to eat in Korea.
