Anyone knows why it's off by default in multiplayer and on in the campaign?

Is there a way to make it default autocast ON?

No idea why they put repair on autocast in the campaign, but no, there is no way to change this in multiplayer and there also isn't any good reason to want this in the first place.

i think if you right or left click (i dont remember which for sure, its early gimme a break) the repair icon it stays on... and you can do the same thing with move to get SCV's to follow units. The only applicable situation i've been in is for thors, but its pretty much necessary.

select all scvs ALT+R then A click where to ur units needing repairs, thats how i roll in 1x1 games

You're not going to need it on all the time, because it's rarely relevant, since mining workers don't autocast it. The time when it's going to be most useful is if you're bringing SCVs to repair for a mech push, and even then, you'd generally want to focus-repair those units that are taking damage, or that are more important (e.g. you don't want SCVs repairing random Hellions while your Thors are dying).

Right-click on repair to turn on auto-cast.

Then attack-move to around the area you want to repair stuff.

Its off by default in multiplayer - Once a SCV finishes building a building, I dont want it repairing the 500hp that my factory took holding a wall - its just a waste of money.

However in single player - sure you can repair everything. You have money coming out of your ears and aren't really trying to be as economical as multi.

One thing to note about having lots of SCVs set to auto-repair: They will always prioritize repairing over attacking when you attack-move. Just warning, if you intend to fight off Zerglings or something, they'll sit there repairing each other forever rather than fight.

it would suck, because any idle scv will automatically consume mineral/gas in order to repair anything in range.

what's wrong with turning it on when you need it?

personally i find that if you a-move your scv's and then select about half of them to auto repair they put up a very good fight against lings (repairing eachother while some attack).

The problem and the benefit is that with Auto-Repair on and a large grouping of mech, the SCV's will automatically begin repairing the hurt units inside the group without having to identify and assign them. The problem is that you can't control which unit they repair, and I swear sometimes SCV's will choose to repair each other than the Thor you want them to repair. Also, it's a mechanic that almost needlessly removes a potential source of differentiation between low and pro players.

It has pros and cons.

Fast way to turn auto-repair on is the select a group of scvs and press alt+r. I guess you could just select all your scvs and do that if you really want it on :p

I asked because I personally liked how it worked during the campaign. Guess I'll have to adjust.

But still, it's weird that they didn't make it the same in both environments, for consistency sake.
