Situation: MSL finals just finished. I am browsing to the live report thread to see what other people think of this. I stumple upon way too many shitty posts from people < 500 post count. I don't want to read their uneducated opinion. Most of them are probably sc2 nerds.
Proposed solution: Make it possible for the browser (eg: me) to not see posts from users with a post count lower than X, where X is adjustable by the browser. The low-post-count-posts could for example be faded out.
I know there are shitty high count posters (CM) and there are probably good low post counters. But there is only one CM and the low post counters will get high anyway, later on.
Not going to happen. Post count is no indication of posting quality. Also live report threads are just terrible and always have been, just accept that.
A slashdot like system where people can vote really bad comments down, might work. So you'd be able to fade out posts that are just really, really bad, but keep the threshold high enough that it won't be too easy to abuse it.
In summary, you'd have a rather large number of "moderators" where each moderator can influence the reputation of posts. When a post has a bad reputation, it's not shown by default. So people that post crap would see their posts disappear.

Hahaha, totally agree.
You scroll through and laugh at people going OMG WTF JUST HAPPENEDJI1H2OI12O?!?!

sounds like a powerful weapon for flash fans.
yeah, just imagine a flash/jaedong or imba thread. It would be dominated by whichever clan has a larger following.
Come on, LRs have always been like that, it's a way of maintaining the crazy-hype atmosphere. What I dislike in those threads is whenever an uneducated analysis is made on the spot of the current game, it's usually bullshit, and that's why I tend do ignore longer posts.

People with downvoting power still have to be appointed moderators. Pick people who will moderate responsibly.
At the same time, the power is comparatively limited, so a large number of people can be appointed.

yeah even though shitty spam is annoying it's like the one place where it seems to fit and not really detract from quality
i mean if im reading through the lr of a game id rather see 'OMG REVA REVA REVAAAAAA' than
oh, well, bisu did indeed execute that reaver drop rather well

So if I want my opinion to be heard I have to make alot of posts? ~~
Postcount isn't related to broodwarskill or esportsknowledge.

I don't see how low post counts can prevent us from getting high now.

Nail meet head.
This exemplifies why it wouldn't work.
I try to read ever reply, especially if the thread is under 5 pages, but like alot I will gravitate to the bigger names, but bigger names is not sorted by post count.
Since it won't let me make a new thread (New member) this seemed like the right thread to reply to.
Why not just add a Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down review like many other forums. With the environment that TL has, I don't really believe flamewars will break out uncontrollably, if at all.
Its usually a good indicator when you open a thread that if the post doesn't have a high rating, it probably isn't worth your time, and you can look elsewhere.
Adding the current review to the thread name in the list would also help if that's viable.
Its just a suggestion, so don't take it as more than it is.

And it's a good thing it won't let you make a new thread, as this has been brought up 500+ times already.

Bockit makes a great point. Icons and stars are enough as indicators. Besides that, people who have been around here long enough know who the good posters actually are.
