Do you mean that Boxer was so powerful that nobody could compete him? If so, this only proofs his dominance over other players. Hence, I would restate your phrase as 'Back then there was no player who could compete Boxer'.

Everyone was bad back then, Boxer was less bad Everybody is really good right now, Jaedong is better Anyway, I, like a lot of others, am glad I didn't stay up to watch this. If Jaedong can win MSL or OSL next season on what will without a doubt be a map pool that disadvantages Zerg then he is without a doubt the best player ever. Well, he already is the best player ever so not much will change, but that win would be 3x more incredible than this season. He almost did it in Arena, but fOrGG turned on his WTFPWN everyone mode.

So maybe Jaedong is still as far ahead of everyone else as boxer was, but because the baseline is higher he's only 25% better whereas boxer was 100% better.

Still, good shit JD ![]() That's a bad way to look at it. If starcraft is still played in 2 years (which is very possible -_-) the skill level could reach even bigger heights, and people then would look on todays skill as "inferior". You can't take this one point in time as the high point of starcraft. In starcraft, there is macro, micro, speed, execution, mind games, game sense, build order execution, luck. There can never be a point in time that is "really good". Back then, the skills were inferior, but it was more focused on game sense, genious moves and thought up plays, micro, mind games, even then more so than now in some cases (however micro today is much more advanced, especially in ZvZ for example.) Nowadays, especially with lower players in progaming, it's much more focused on macro, build orders, preparation, and how well they execute it. They can, however, unlike people back then, take what they did then, and add it to there own play. Boxer didn't have anyone to copy. He thought up everything. He played how he thought was best. He dominated starcraft and was the best player by far. True, there may be less overall skills, but this is because as the game goes along, gamers have much more open to them. Take teamliquid for example, it has a strategy forum, vods of games on maps, it even has a fucking wikipedia of information. Everything is there for foreign players, as much as it is for progamers with coaches who have played during the early starcraft period, all the build orders pretty much thought out, the macro and micro techniques known. It is just a matter of if that person can reach the height of each skill, and then add there own flair and style to the mix. Jaedong has done this perfectly. It doesn't, however, make him simply the best player, but the highest skilled player. You can look at starcraft as "oh compared to now they are playing terrible, they must be bad" but it's different conditions with a different outlook. Compare 2005 to 2002 and it's similar to how we react now to back then, but too a smaller extent. People then were more appreciative because of how they played then and how the game was, but the game has advanced so much further that nowadays it just looks like a joke, especially to newer players.

Yeah, and if that happened and say Flash became the most dominant player, I would say "2 years ago everyone was good and JD was better, now everybody is better and Flash is just outstanding". You're missing my point.
