Predictions+ Show Spoiler + Man Oz got such a perfect draw. Chalk it up to luck or good coaching, but whatever it was, it made it a whole lot harder for the newly sponsored Hite Sparkyz to win. Jaedong gets to play a ZvZ, HiyA gets to play a TvP, and the ace-matchup is on a zerg-favored map - so there should be little difficulty for Oz's aces to win the match themselves, and thats only assuming Leta and Hogil win. My prediction, Oz wins 3-2

This line-up isn't to bad for Hite tbh. Jaedong is the best ZvZer in the world but Yarnc still has a chance to take him down or if Horang2 has some sneaky build that totally throws Hiya off Hite might actually take this 3-1.
|
Only way Hite* can win is this goes to Ace.
For OGN to win it'll probably look: Spear < Hogil JD > Arnc ggaemo < Leta Hiya > Horang2 JD <> Leta

Chugging down free Hite is only gonna help the team console themselves after today's loss, not prepare them for a win.

Spear > HoGil Jaedong > Yarnc ggaemo < Leta HiyA > Horang2
Hwaesung 3:1 Hite imo

Outsider is thus the perfect map for this. I also hate Hiya.

horang2 will play a very important role here. going into his MU I'm sure it's gonna be 2-1 hite. if HiyA wins there, then it's gg for hite.

What about PirateZerg and MustacheZerg? Lol~

Hogil Jaedong Leta Hiya
PirateZerg
3-2 Oz

OZ should've sent out PirateZerg and MustacheZerg... I would've been more confident in them then.
Hmm.
Spear < Hogil Jaedong > YarnC Ggaemo < Leta Hiya > Horang2 Jaedong < Leta: Even though it seems as a Zerg favored map, Leta's ridiculous builds in TvZ will definitely find a way to be shown on this map. IF Sparkyz play to the map, they'll just be feeding Jaedong a Zerg: probably JD > YarnC a second time, though YarnC could pull off an upset either time.
3-2 whatever they are Sparkyz
|
Imo, I don't think anyone on Sparkyz can take down Jaedong. So if it goes to the ace match they are pretty much screwed unless Jaedong plays poorly.

basically unless jaedong decides to do a 5 pool and miss somehow on a two player map, oz got this in ace match

It's the worst possible draw. Even Oz's crappy player is paired up with a crappy player. It's basically 2 Oz favoring 1 Hite 1 Neutral. It's not impossible for Hite to win, but I'd be surprised if they did. Also, everytime they've played this season, Oz has won in the ace match.
|
Well Sparkyz has a better chance in regular PL than in WL so it's not going to be too surprising if they win even though they are the underdogs here. They're almost always the underdog which is why it's so entertaining to watch em.
Sparkyz will of course want to finish this before the ace match but I think a Leta vs JD ace match is the only way Sparkyz will win. However Yarnc is capable of beating JD, so I'm hoping for that.

Saying how protoss is favored on this map because they can go 9 gate on the ramp, defending 9 pool easily while also able to harass the zerg.

Z taking his expansion. Z scouts P, but P scouts the wrong direction, so he'll find z last. Drone on ramp keeps probe from getting in the main.

Z taking a third base, P expanding behind his main.

Urgh, this is so frustrating, can't get a stable stream that actually shows both video AND audio.
|
Cybernetics going down for P, second expo going up for Z. P scouts expo with a probe.
|
Core going down for p, lings keeping the probe from scouting at z's nat. With a juke, it gets into the main and scouts hydra den with no lair.
|
Z drops a hydra den den before lair. Gets scouted and probe dies.
|
Stargate going down for p, even though he just scouted the whole z bases. Small hydra/ling attack coming, 4 zeals to defend.
|
Z rallying lings + hydras at protoss main. Might try to break through.
|
god fuck these streams nobody can stream this properly.

Naw just saying if JD loses Oz could lose 1-3 or 0-3. As it is though if OGN wins it will probably be in the ace match.
|
OH MY EFF HE MIGHT LOSE effing zerglings
|
Overlord giving vision and hydra taking free shots. Goon tries to run the ovie off, but to no avail. Lings move up, zeals die. Probes are pulled, all over the ramp. Battery morphs in, cannon morphing, but p loses all his fighting units. Probes getting massacred, more lings streaming in. Zeal finishes, but is surrounded.

Refreshing for the umpteenth time.
|
Somehow he holds. Second cannon coming in, but hydra can hit it. Sair trying to harass back at z main. Ling runs by and gets to the nat, but dies to probes there. Sair has 3 kills I Think. 1 cannon and 3 zeals holding the ramp, but p's lost a TON of probes. Luckily z's sorta low on drones too.
|
On April 11 2009 13:13 Avidkeystamper wrote: What the... 1 gate, -.-
This is going to be standard on this map. With a Loki-style base you can easily do this and have a huge tech lead on the zerg, with a free base of your own.
|
Lair finished. Z adding a fourth hatch. Sair scouts it. Haven't seen a spire. Citadel and a bunch of gates going down for p.
|
thank you anderoo... first stream that actually works!
|
Uh oh, tech switch, spire is down, has Spear scouted this?
|
P loses a harassing sair. Z adding his third gas now. Spire morphing.
|
Z scouts out the P base just as the spire finishes. No cannons around the mins, we should see mutas shortly. Zeal attack coming.
|
Zeals pull back from 2 sunkens and a bunch of hydra at the natural. Lurker/hydra pushing Z back now. Big Z army in the field. P doing his best to delay. Observatory finished. Temps of both kinds out, P taking his nat with cannons.
|
Drop on the rear natural, just before cannons finished there. Probes get away. P defends, but his obs are scourged and he loses the nexus.
|
hogil doom drops, he's going to get the protected nat nexus
he even walls off the ramp with 3 lurkers, storm goes off on them and he cancels them and remakes the wall with one lurker, obs gets sniped by scourge
this is how you play zvp

I didnt see, which xpack did each player take first? Their nat or the one in the back?

OGN: If Spear sends just one DT to the 1 o clock expo, he might be able to make this game at least slightly better in his favor.
But after the drop: OGN: We mentioned that it was similar to Lost Temple, and Hogil is playing how the Protosses found most annoying on lost temple, by playing like this. By sending the lurkers, he's forcing the Protoss to use his storm, hence being able to destroy the nat more easily.
GG.
|
ouch, nice strategy by hogil though.
|
Another drop coming on the front natural. Attack coming in at the same time. Z also pushing into the main with the drop force from the back nat. The front nat is overrun. Lurkers are up the ramp and spear gg's.

OGN: Fake yellow's ZvZ is almost the best, only to be outshined by this person, Jaedong! He has 3 losses!? I really want to find out who gave Jaedong these 3 losses, because that is how amazing his ZvZ is.
Neo Medusa has been changed, mostly to favor Terran. Center is now buildable, and the gas at 6 has been moved as players had their gas destroyed at 6 too easily, as compared to other positions.

micro battle at JD's nat. Yarnc's 8 lings v JD's 6 + 3 drones. Yarnc's lings own, with 3 remaining. More streaming in. JD buying time. Yarnc gets 3 lings into JD's main. Yarnc's spire going down but JD's lair still morphing. Counter by JD. Runs away from yarnc's defense.
|
konadora
Singapore66060 Posts
OGN: Yarnc comes in with lings, a play Jaedong usually enjoys and wins. Hangs outside the opponent with lings, waiting for speed upgrade, and then completely devours the opponent. But it's still Jaedong, and he might be able to make his miraculous comeback. Jaedong is two-hatch, whereas Yarnc is only 1 hatch, so Jaedong can pressure him to make more lings and build more sunkens with mass lings! Tech difference is too high! Jaedong needs to end it now! It's tough, but he doesn't have a choice!
|
Jaedong exps, yarnc none. Ling battle at JD's xp, Yarnc somewhat ahead. JD eventually repels with 2 hatches of lings, but yarnc has a sunken and his spire will be up sooner.
|
why no stream working?? cmon korean friends!!
|
JD attacks into yarnc's defense, but it's perfect and JD loses all his lings but 2 with no losses for yarnc. Mutas out. JD with spores.
|
JD picks off a drone at yarnc's base, but loses at least one, maybe two back at his own to lings.
|
Even when Jaedong is completely fucked he turns it around in ZvZ.
|
JD continues the ling attacks, this time focusing the sunken. Kills it! Yarnc cleans it up with no drone losses, but he lost mining time.
|
this is an intense zvz
yellow got spire faster but only 1 hatch
jaedong no spire but he had 2 hatches and spores up in his main and nat
he snipes yellows sunken and snipes a lot of drones
|
|
Looks like Jaedong has a chance here.
|

Singapore66060 Posts
OGN: Wow, Yarnc builds a evo chamber to defend his sunken! How can someone pressure Jaedong like this? He can just defend this, and cancel the chamber later! But Jaedong's spore colony is finished just on time, and he needs to defend both his hatcheries to win. He needs to build his spire now, because once his spore colonies are destroyed, it will be a matter of time before he will be overrun. JD is doing well by saving his drones, as well as doing harass!
JD HAS A CHANCE! HE DESTROYS THE SUNKEN!
He is constantly sniping drones, now JD has more drones! By making it so far, he's already been amazing, but if he makes a comeback, we'll be lost for words! By pressuring Yarnc, Yarnc will be forced to make more lings and sunkens, being unable to being mutalisks. But Yarnc plays well, showing what a good player he is by choosing to build more drones instead of sacrificing economy and letting Jaedong take the economic advantage!
|
JD's spire finally morphing. Tries another little ling attack, but mutas take it out. Majority of JD's lings held back for now. Oh, there they go.
|
Only Jaedong can climb back from a ZvZ where he's this behind. He really needs to win this for Hwaseung to have a chance.

OGN: Although Yarnc has more units now, JD has gotten the second gas first, so in time, Jaedong will overtake Yarnc. He wants to destroy Yarnc's unit balance, hence constantly killing off overlords with scourges, forcing Yarnc to build more overlords and unable to build mutalisks.
|
JD scourging at least 3 of yarnc's ovies so far. Has his third morphing. Yarnc getting his second set up, morphing a colony now. JD has mutas out now.
|
That's really smart from Jaedong to expand again, he knows Yarnc can't leave his base with mutas or ling counterattack will rape him.
|
Keep updated please since i can't watch.

How is yellow getting raped like this. Jesus.

Holy SHIT that was SO good. NOBODY understands this matchup better than JD.

I wanna watch ittttttttt!!!

Seriously that game makes me wonder how Jaedong has ever lost 20% of his ZvZs. Yarnc got a huge advantage with those first lings - equal drones and a spire before JD's Lair finished. All JD had was his second hat and still he manages to pull it off.

OGN: JD was so far behind it was a wonder why he did not type out. He defended brilliantly against that zergling attack! But afterwards, Yarnc made a mistake, losing an overlord carelessly, losing a drone to zerglings, getting his supply stuck, losing a mutalisk to one spore colony carelessly. Jaedong simply had great mechanics, and made full use of the fact that he had two hatcheries, as well as having great defence and attacking sense.
|
I kind of want to give JD the nickname "Defiler," -- consumes zergs like no tomorrow.

OGN: Sparkyz could have won 3-0, but Jaedong once again pulls off a ridiculously unbelievable win, denying a possible 0-3 loss. Next up is Leta, who has strong TvZ, versus ggaemo!

OGN: As long as ggaemo performs well, Hiya can end today's match easily. Newcomers usually perform better on new maps, so this is a great chance for ggaemo to perform!

OGN: If Spear, ggaemo, or anyone can win games, then Hwaseung will be unstoppable! Leta needs to return to his former self, so that Sparkyz can climb up the ranks! He must play as though this will be his last!

Where's ggaemo sending his overlord?
|
leta sends an early SCV, overlord does not see it
ggaemo is 12hatching, leta is building an ebay at the nat like he always does leta <3
|
Leta puts a half built ebay in ggaemo's nat with a very early SCV scout to deny the expo. 4 Drones pulled to kill it.
|
leta puts down a bunker, totally faking it
ggaemo pulls 4 drones

OGN: Wow, ggaemo must have established a well relation with his female fans, as far as what I can tell from all the screaming. He has a nice face (lol), and has been training his body, garnering more female fans!
Leta building e-bay at nat to delay expo, forces ggaemo to bring out three more drones, doing economic damage.
Also saying how the corners have 20 0-mineral patches, and 7 1500hp Temples stacked.
Leta builds a bunker as though he's going for a bunker rush, forcing ggaemo to pull drones again, while not even building a marine. Factory done for Leta.

Leta starts a bunker at ggaemo's nat, but its in vision of the hatchery. 4 Drones come kill it again. Leta walling his main.

2 port for leta, scouted by an overlord. Vulture out, moving toward the nat, kills some lings on the way.

Overlord scouts starport, zergling sees vulture. Den almost done for ggaemo. Leta glitches a vulture into the cliff at zerg's nat, forcing ggaemo to move drones.

Vult harass does no real damage, wraiths are out now though. 2 Overlords down so far.

Singapore66060 Posts
OGN: Leta is doing damage without actually killing a lot! Forcing drone pull, overlord losses, etc! Since air-to-air distance is closer, ggaemo should have predicted that Leta will go for wraiths. Leta even walled himself in to do wraith micro! Since he got his second gas late, Leta has dealt a lot of economic damage before doing severe damage now!
|
ggaemo seems to be ok so far. :-)
Edit: Oh wait never mind.

ggaemo picks off quite a couple of wraiths!
Leta switching tech to bionic.
|
Leta was doing pretty well but then he lost a bunch of wraiths to muta/scourge.
|
Not sure I really agree with OGN here - Leta killed almost no drones, and ggaemo has built up a sizable muta force and driven them off, while Leta poured resources into wraiths (including cloak). Leta transitioning to bio now, more rax going up. ggaemo actually looks a little ahead to me.
|
|
And then GGaemo only brought 2 overlords in his attack and lost all muta.
|
Leta kills all of ggaemo's mutalisks because of no detection!
|
konadora
Singapore66060 Posts
Commentators saying how ggaemo managed to adjust accordingly to Leta's harassment. Also adding how ggaemo should have made use of the ramps, as well as picking off the wraiths first, BECAUSE THERE IS NO OVIES LEFT! Cloaked wraiths kill mutalisks. All of them.
|
|
|
And of course after I say that, ggaemo loses all his mutas in a mid map fight to cloaking >< wraiths doing a bit more damage again despite a good number of hydras out also.
|
Unfortunate, but not unforeseen.
|
Did GGaemo just attack his own overlord with hydras?
|
Leta has his nat up and running
|
|
Leta moving to attack ggaemo's nat, ggaemo morphing lurkers but does not look like they'll pop in time
Leta scans anyway, one lurker pops and is immediastely killed, a second one gets burrowed but Leta is still doing damage
ggaemo is defending but Leta has brought 2 tanks and siegies them and starts a bunker
ggaemo gg's

OGN's analysis: Outsider forces players to get mineral-only expos first before expanding at a gas-nat, unless you don't glitch your way to expand. Because you use all your gas on Arbiters, you only have zealots and dragoons, and once Dragoons die, it's hard to reinforce more dragoons since you are low on gas. Players need to understand this map well to win!

OGN: HoRang2 could have gotten the 5 main, or the double-gas expo area at 7, but why did he have to choose an expo close to the Terran? Also, HoRang2 did not kill any tanks at all, nor did he even cast a statis field. Hiya had his upgrades almost complete, that is why he just abandoned the tanks at 5 nat, so as to pull HoRang2's entire army to 5, taking that chance to push out and make use of his high ratio of tanks and his strong upgrades.
|

Horang2 looking pretty ashamed of himself, he knows he just doomed his team

It seems like progamers have decided against taking the double-gas expos here. Too vulnerable to harassment? Or would they not have enough minerals?

...way to completely ignore Nova's point.
Given that the ace is on Battle Royale, I retract my previous post: Hite knew OZ would send JD, and knew that Yarnc would be their best shot regardless. You just do not want to field anyone but a Zerg on this map.
Kind of sad for Hite, really...playing against JD with Battle Royale as the ace is almost an auto-loss unless you 3>0 or 3>1.

Zerg is never a good choice vs jd, map is irrelevant. Terran stands a better chance.

lol OGN... OGN: Yarnc must deal a ton of damage here! Downgrade Jaedong from a God to a Mortal!

Yarnc gets 2 lings through the assimilators. Now 3 more. Spire going for JD. More lings coming from yarnc. Yarnc keeping the lings busy in the main while the reinforcements hit the nat hatch. JD's spire is done. He's having to use drones to defend. Loses one. Yarnc pulling back. Mutas clean up the attack. JD picks off yarnc's ovie. Takes a scourge shot, but doesn't lose a muta.

Oh my freaking god. He wins again.

Muta battle in JD's main while JD sneaks lings into yarnc's main. Yarnc loses on both fronts and gg's.

Yarnc lost 4 ling, JD lost 2 lings at the assimilator. But how... I still don't get it, and probably never will, even if I look at the replay, FPVOD, VOD a million times.
OGN: Many of you would have seen this scenario: Zerg has speed, lings in the other zerg's main, who has less zerglings and no speed upgrade. By then, that zerg should have lost. But this doesn't seem to apply to Jaedong.
You must, I repeat, you MUST defeat Jaedong before his mutalisks are out. It is HIS mutalisks.

I look at it a little differently: we never really understood ZvZ until Jaedong came along. Oh, we've seen some ZvZ experts, but none at this level. He just doesn't make mistakes in this matchup. Everyone always said that ZvZ came down to mechanics, and Jaedong continues to show us just how apt a statement that is - and nobody can compare to his.

You have that wrong, Jaedong killed more at the first battle at the assimilator with 4 zerglings to Yarnc's 6. I'm not sure of the numbers, but Yarnc definitely lost more than 1 ling.

IIRC 2 of Yarnc's lings lived to run by, which would suggest JD lost 2 (I know he had 2 left), and yarnc lost 4.

Exactly. Everytime I watch PL or WL I kind of get the feeling that headcoaches seem to think they could snipe JD with a zerg, hoping they will be lucky. They feed him his victims again and again. Every A-Level Terran would be a better bet imo.
But it is a really good time to be a Jaedong fan right now

OZ would be so overwhelmingly powerful if they could get some mid/upper-mid tier progamers to complement Hiya winning all his TvPs and Jaedong winning everything. I guess it worked out decently for me, although I'd rather horang win and someone else on OZ win instead (for fantasy PL).
Seriously, Hiya has a sick record TvP for proleague what the fuck?

I'm fairly sure Yarnc went overpool gas, but I'd have to watch again to be sure. He definitely went pool on 9, I'm just not 100% if it was before or after ovie, but I think it was after.
Jaedong did 12 pool gas, then took his expansion immediately. I think that's his fairly standard zvz build.

First JD v Yarnc was 12 pool gas expo for JD against overpool gas speed.

That explains how Jaedong beats more zerglings with less zerglings then.
It all makes sense now.

When Jaedong plays, he starts with 4 drones + invisible 2 drones. His drones has 80 hp in reality. The same goes with his zerglings: 70 hp and does 10 dmg instead with +1 armor. Oh and the best part is, his mutalisk regens 100% life per sec.

That's true, but the way you say it makes it seem like Hwaseung Oz is the only team with this problem, while this is true for many teams, including OGN. Flash doesn't play for KTF. They lose 3-0. Some things never change~
Also, no interview?

True that, but for a team who is at the top, you expect more. Why? Because the best team has to have the deepest lineup or it feels cheap somehow? The rules allow for teams like Hwaseung Oz, so your expectations are misplaced for the PL format. They would be right for the WL format though.
Yea, but they rely on jaedong to get 2 wins, and then they just try and win another match. Its just like in other sport, like basketball or football, if you're on the top, then your team has great players.

No it's not like another sport, because of the PL format, it allows for teams like Hwaseung to exist and thrive, and that's why you shouldn't expect more from the best team because in a format like this, the best team relies on their ace and has been doing so for the entire season and it's working. If this WL, then the format would not be so condoning to such a team, but this isn't anymore.

I guess, but its just that I have a much higher expectation of them.

Okay, it's not really important either way. Though to be clear, you expect them to have more good players, like CJ Entus?

That's called "Jaedong-Fear." It's an aura of fear that Jaedong radiates when he plays ZvZ.

Or was it because Jaedong killed an overlord right after his first mutas hatched?

I like NicolBolas' quote more. :p

It's always dangerous when one player is supporting the entire team, because Jaedong is probably the type that will be in OSL, MSL, and bring his team to PL finals, resulting in him burning out from too much practice.
