so i've searched the forums and i've found countless threads showing kespa rankings, but none explaining how it's calculated.
How the elo system is calculated is easily found on google, but kespa calculation doesn't really show up on a google search.
this may have been answered in some ancient thread, buried in the depths of the virtual TL libraries, but just as a one stop answer, could anyone point the finger in the right direction plz? thx

I am view #75 and to be honest I don't know how or where its found! T____T
Someone tell us where :D

I can only point you in the right direction:
KeSPA ranking is based on match results from all known korean tourneys, and WCG, both wins and losses, and the amount of points given are based on the importance of the match (MSL final is worth more than ODT groups).
Originally, the score was calculated over matches played in the last 12 months (I think), but this a changed like 2 years ago, and I believe now it's 4 months or so, this was apparently because big bosses felt it'd represent a better picture of the progaming world.

Actually it was originally an all time ranking. February 2003 it became a 12 months ranking.
And more recently (not sure when, too lazy to check...) it changed to a 3 months ranking.

do you have a refernce to more details of the whole process? it would be nice to have something of the equivalent to this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system
with mathmatical formulas.
But thx for the bit of info about 3 months ranking!

The randomness encountered due to the quantum nature of the calculations explains why FakeSteve is yet to reach number one.

This FAQ item seems to discuss how the points system is calculated. But since I don't understand one bit of korean, I may be totally wrong. Kespa FAQ #18
Here is google's translation of that FAQ item.
Ranking Ranking Association is a comprehensive, team rankings, ranking divided by personal announcement.
Ranking calculated approach
① period applies to the points deducted
Grades are reflected within the past 3 months, but other than 100% for the period as follows: 10% each month will be deducted apply.
Team scores reflect ②
Ranking points are reflected in the team ranking applies to score points, depending on the season Unlike Individual grants, and each points to the winner of each set of the final match both teams going Set to 'finish (Closer)' is 50% of the confrontation between the isolated been given extra points , in a separate post-season games, 50 percent of the gasanyul apply. Individual and team of players who daseungwang to apply for a separate bonus points.
Each percentage point adjustment ③ rigeubyeol
In the case of each individual league every season because of the progress of the different plates can be granted because there is no point in every game, 'depending on the league grants points to' the existing way of the elimination of 500 points that basically un-prize granted by the Unification .

That's very interesting-- oh, so that's how it is. The last 12 months are taken into consideration but games almost a very ago hardly count. The just the last 3 months rule couldn't be right because there would be numerous steep drops every month.

I'm not entirely sure myself, but all I know is...
1) In their last change, they removed WCG from their official ratings. WCG is no longer counted towards KeSPA points. (which is why Stork barely budged when he won 2007, while historically players jumped like 10 ranks each time they won)
2) I think 3 months is right.... I'm certain in their last change they constricted it so that players who won big tourneys half a year ago don't benefit so much from it.... if it all.
3) Teamplay ranks and single ranks are separated, and added together for the total rank.

Noone really knows how Kespa is calculated. The accepted theory is that it involves lots of dart boards

There are three different categories: overall ranking, proleague ranking, and individual ranking.
The math behind the ranks:
① Decaying of points through time
The results from the last 3 months are applied 100%, but for every month afterwards, 10% of the points gained "decays"; (so basically a game played 3+ months ago would count for only 90% of the point gained, 4+ months 80% until 12 months afterwards would count 0% into kespa ranking)
② Application of points from proleague
Unlike the individual leagues where the points gained through a win depend on the current rank according to kespa, the proleague wins count as an individual "win", (meaning who the opponent is doesn't change the amount of points earned through the win). However, in a setting where a player plays in the "ace match" or the "closer", there is a 50% bonus for the win. If a player wins an ace match in the post season, there is an additional 50% bonus for that win (so 200% points earned for a win one ace match) There is also bonus points for the players that win the "most wins" prize in the individual and teamplay (2v2) matches. (explains why flower/justin was so high up in kespa a couple of months ago)
③ Controlling the points in the individual leagues
In the case of individual leagues, it is impossible to justify a specific amount of point that a player earns for a win. The amount of points gained depend on their performance in the league, but there is a 500 extra point bonus for winning the league. And there is no bonus for the amount of money earned (they used to give OSL more kespa points than MSL because OSL gave out more money but it doesn't matter now that MSL gives as much money to the MSL winner)
