Why unexpected ? Action has proven to be the best active zerg in the world right now (may be behind SK) while Light is 2nd in sb matches behind only Flash

I've been a fan of Light's since 2006 or 2007, and have had my heart broken so many times in individual leagues with him not performing up to his proleague or practice house standards. So in that sense it's a bit of a pleasant surprise.

i remember when light had that incredible run in the bigfile msl where he stomped effort (fresh off an osl victory) and had jaedong against the ropes 2-1 in the semi-final - then he forgot how to defend 2 hatch and just died. it was one of the more sadder moments in his career.

The last time i watched a zerg with a big economy like this was Hero vs Best on transistor in ASL 5. At zero point in the game Rain had any kind of lead.

I’ve been following the pro scene for a long time. By great, I’m not referring to pure results but raw talent/knowledge that could be transferrable to any era.

I see little difference between Zero and SK from that POV. I actually have been souring on SK's play recently. Feels Larva-esque in terms of how defensive he has become. That said, I don't follow the scene *that* closely; this is simply my intuitive impression from watching everything in individual leagues/KCM the past few years.

Guess it doesn't really matter anymore with SK going away for 1.5 years. We'll see what the scene is like then.
i think theres a discrepancy between practice/stream soulkey and what you typically see in live tournament. If this were a different era soulkey would almost be Canata esque, where you hear about something great and never see it. If you were to confine your analysis of his play to only the ASL, he is extremely underwhelming relative to his hype. not a born champion type.

I don't remember that game, but I'm staying up for tonight against all rational judgment, and I've some time to pass, so I may watch it.

I may be wrong. I'd have to to rewatch to get more specific. But the margin of denying Rain's 3rd was razor thin, maybe five or ten seconds. I might be exaggerating it; it was certainly no more than a minute, but if Rain denied that zerglings from killing the pylon and Rain had properly positioned zealots on the ramp with a cannon warping in, momentum would have swung to Rain in a big way.

Soma compromised his long term integrity because he smelled blood. This is something only truly great players do, because you have to be right far more often than not to justify going that route over the Larva-esque python squeeze strategy.

If you manage to pull it off, though, it gives you incredible decision making--and at parts of the game where most pros aren't pressured into such tight high-risk decisions. It scales much better at the higher levels than defensive play, especially for Zerg.

It was very impressive, and he almost took down Last the very next match.

Did you even watch closely or are you just looking for reasons to disagree with me? I've seen your name before but don't recall you ever having anything positive to contribute in my direction.

Edit: Best v Hero from ASL5 has Hero BO counter Best and get lings into his main, doing economic damage... and then best loses his first reaver and four sairs in his first drop, killing ~1 drone. Totally different game. In Rain v Soma, Rain goes FE v 9pool... yeah, if Rain has 2 lots on the ramp to stop the lings from attacking the Nexus, he saves the Nexus and has a comfortable lead.

Im a Rain fan and i watched it closely. Not saying it was totally 1sided but almost. Its obvious and simple imo, Soma massed drones which remind me of my early days playing bgh and got away with it. Looked like a no rush 10 (ground only) game, in which soma secured 3 bases, rushed to hive, with 3 evos while massing drones and starting a pretty early 4th. Rain was cleary not focusing and didnt do anything besides microing his corsairs (sometimes). He was extremly slowly (compared to his usual skills) to react against the drop to his main also. He was just a bit off, i think.

I am not comparing both games, i am just saying that in the pro scene, its pretty rare that a zerg reach this high number of drones to start to just product from hotkey hatchs and attack from the rally point. Rain clearly let himself fall into this phase of the game by doing (almost) nothing and it was game over from there.
