Let's see if Last is still the powerhouse we think he is, because he had a few hiccups in the qualifiers and maybe he's not as menacing offline as he used to be. He is still a TvZ monster, though, so I suppose he'll beat Miso, but in a winner match against Snow I have my doubts. I hope I am wrong, since there are not many really strong terrans beside Flash. Mind is really good, yea, but that's pretty much it, as Mong is in the 50% winrate since forever and both Sharp and Light are declining IMO. Terran FIGHTING! P.S. Prediction: Snow qualifies first, Last qualifies through the loser match.

These are just very strong maps for Terran but if someone can channel the power of the Samsung Protosses it's Snow. Miso played great games in the past months he showed up on my highlight reel a lot but I do agree it's such a tough group for him. He also hasn't really proven himself offline. Interesting note: Last and Miso were in the same group last ASL too. They both lost to Stork and went out in the Ro24. Interesting note 2: It's not just Miso who's underrated. While this group doesn't have that starpower it might have one of the highest Sponbbang Elo-averages. Ranking as of today: 3. Snow, 1193 5. Last, 1181.8 11. Mong, 1140.6 . . . 25. Miso, 1038.2

I didn't check the stats but whenever I saw Mong, Last, or Mind play, they pretty much won vZ and vP maybe except against Soulkey. That is some heavy bias, of course but that counts more for me than the three non-mirror matches of Light and Rush.

These are the two with the highest stakes and it could be good for the quality of the games if the players could play with a less anxious state of mind. Its so brutal for some of these players to only get two games and then "see you next time"

I was surprised to see Snow still going with the 2stargate pump. Miso let the 1 Zealot in his main do far too much damage. Initial thought on the result: Snow threw away a pretty much sealed victory. However: Miso is probably familiar with Snow's play and did exactly what he had to do to in order to win. The 1 DT could have backfired really hard on Miso, he really went all out all in. I'm pretty sure Snow's building placement could be improved... It would probably help his building timings... ![]()

i feel this map pool is really out to get flash and the other terrans are collateral damage. that being said, both those terrans played pretty badly. last seemed to think he beat a zerg with pure wraith/valkyrie.

If anyone needs to be in the Ro16 selection, it's Mong! At least Shine is there. I'm reminded of the ASL3 Ro16 selection where Best was pretending Mong has some unstoppable TvT build so Flash wouldn't relocate Mong. Hilarious. Anyway, props to Snow, and esp Miso. I caught a moment of his stream earlier, and he was going nuts... wearing shades, and doing a spastic drummer impersonation. He's obviously ecstatic.

That being said, Last totally deserved to lose against Miso, what was he thinking? Terran air superiority is on a clock on Sparkle, unless you expand like mad behind the pressure and then tech to BCs or use the window to drop several expansions at once. Mong, on the other hand, just had pretty much everything against him. Last has a consistently better TvT than Mong and he had to play one of the best, if not the best, reaver user - on an island map.

Isn't weird that, from what i saw in practice (been watching a ton of pro players stream especially when the maps first were released), Zerg would get crushed on Sparkle by Terran, but when it comes to pro matches they prepared much better build. Zerg seems to have a lot of options on that map. Shine opening 4hatch before pool into hydra drops, and Miso opening with a super quick spire (similar to a zvz build sort of). I think the latter will become the standard on this map.

but as often its a bit annoying when they display the lack of basic game knowledge, they thought proxy robo with the first reaver rushing to attack the bunker was ''a new style'' or play this is so silly when you think of it they describe it as a hardcounter to the rax cc witch they are correct but if you think about that you know immediately it has been around since terrans started doing that rax cc expands builds.. so that is since like what?? 2005 2006ish? i know for sure the proxy robo build is nothing new and the use of reaver in that matter. every protoss / terran users knows how important the bunker is and how easy it is to take down with reaver splash damage infact its something everyprotoss always try to do when they proxy robo get a few shots of on the bunker (can kill ALOT of scv in that matter even if you dont take down the bunker) if fails fly into the main or either bulldog or elevator its just normal tactics if you choose to go proxy robo to counter the rax cc.. back to the group C god im DEVASTED by this Last such a incredible master at his game blind sighted by an obvious spot to build the proxy even scouting for this but checks only one side!? of the map wtf just my mind is puzzled how could this happen. ( i guess Last fallen into the trap of thinking it was 2gate ranged goon or at least just goon pressure since the goon count piled up quickly and he hadn't been able to scout only saw just goons walking towards him and didn see any proxy robo yet still scouted for this. i bet he wanted to scout with another scv but it was already to late too high goon count at the front of the natural very quickly one of those super gimmicky aspects of that map like how hydra busts are super deadly and just can drop protosses dead with eaz on the map.) and than yea its just so salty the build is so hardcounter to the rax cc no matter how good you are you can just lose to this what happened between snow/last reminds me alot of how Horang2 took out Flash in msl on the same map blind sighting him 2 proxy gates dark in front of the natural flash scouting it to little too late

Last looked kind of bad on Sparkle. No pressure, no expanding? He did nothing in that game and let Where go up to 6 bases uncontested. He deserved to drop out. I feel a bit bad for Mong but this wasn't the group for him to get out of unfortunately. I don't know about Snow. His PvT seems sharp but I would have liked to see a full game against Last. That build in game 5 proved his balls of steel for sure. I mean, that robo + gateway placement was literally just out of sight and could have easily been scouted. But yeah, without the scout it was a walk-over.

It's not like early game bunker rushing where Z/P have workers and no units. Here, you're walking into 4 goons with SCVs and 4 marines. The marines cannot be guarded by the SCVs since the goons can just snipe them anyways. This is the whole reason T sits behind the bunker at this stage in the first place. So you're really just throwing a bunch of SCVs out there to get a bunker up and having 6 marines or so come in after its done, hoping to get a few into the bunker and eventually take down the building? At that point, even if you get the bunker up you're going to take pretty heavy losses. The Protoss should easily come out ahead even when they lose the proxy just because you're investing so many workers to get a single bunker up without units supporting it.

I'm pretty sure you won't find players doing this build regulary in the TSL 2 (2009) rep packs. Maybe there were some korean pros doing it on specific maps, but at that time it was as exotic as FE in PvP. Nowadays both is common. I played quiet actively till 2010 and remember that I was totally amazed by the FE build when I came back to the game around 2012. But maybe memory is playing a trick on me

I think it was either Flash or Sea who said on stream that it was the Estro terrans such as UpMaGiC and Really who started to experiment with barrack expansion builds versus the protoss race. The above game is one of the earliest examples of such a case, with UpMaGiC trying it out in early 2009.

edit: it was only when protoss players started doing 21 nexus to get ahead of the standard fd/fe builds and terran's developing proper sim city placement that the build truly became mainstream.
