I would assume you could expect a lot less SC2 references in the RO8 and definitely RO4. But yeah as you said, there is a very good reason why Tastosis brings up SC2 so much, BW would not have this many viewers on Twitch in 2016 without all these SC2 viewers/players.

I was expecting there to be a pretty noticeable drop in viewers without Flash, but it looked like it held up well.

Maybe it is indeed imbalanced but I have a feeling a lot of players would complain about any new non-standard map. Dealing with unfamiliar maps and adapting strategies to them is like a core skill aspect that completely disappeared during the last few years.
