Cool ! Thanks for your contribution to BW foreign scene, no rank cut off in this tournament?

I thought about it, but I wasn't sure who would play. Maybe in the future I can do a rank cut off. Like one of the things I thought was like first 2 qualifiers can be opened for D ranks and lower. and the last 2 qualifiers can be opened to everyone. Giving a chance for lower rank people to play... but that's just an idea!
Hope you will play in it :D

you should post on defiler.ru

Do they have a forum? I just advertised on the chat

Pretty sure they have some forum, everyone is Russian though. However, if there is a mention of money or link to this thread then they will probably participate.

If you want to start the tournament at 8pm EST given on challonge you won't get many Europeans to play in it because this is like 2am or later. So you should consider to hold it a little earlier if possible.

Yeah I can do that for the first day since I won't be casting but still be checking the site. what time you think I should do it? 4pm CST?

Yes, they do, not sure how many of them read the forum though. You have to register on the page and add a topic via the crosshair button at the top - already did it.
Also added it on reps.ru and going to write something short in the upcoming days on broodwar.de.

I'm thinking of changing the days to the 26-27 of Feburary due to my work schedule, will that work for anyone? or I can still do the 27th and have the playoffs the next week?
|
I signed up!
Really regret that I didn't notice the Arcania StarLeague until it was far too late so I'll definitely play in this one.

Hello,
you can not host such events without contact the Administration.
There are the Terms of use and Tour rules to respect and we also can give support and information (for example the 1st-2nd March is scheduled the season reset and the server will be offline for hours)
Msg me via iCCup or skype @ iccup.face

don't worry, any tour is a good tour, as long as it doesn't rely on hockey cards.

I didn't know you needed to get iccup's permission to host a tournament :/

Exactly, I didn't think you needed it either, and there has been plenty hosted without there permission i'm sure....which is why I think it is ridiculous they are also trying to be the face of this tournament lol...
Do you think it is going to increase iCCups Population by forcing people to have iCCup as the face of every tournament, asking people to pay to enter tournaments, advertising to pay for rank in ladder, ect.?

It was mainly established to keep an overview of who does what and when stuff takes place. This should make sure no admin wastes time to host a ladder tournament, while a defiler tour goes on, or that you host special events during prize tournaments. At the same time, you could also inform - just like it happened - if the server goes down for mainentenance.
Aside from all that, if you use an alien system for the first time and are somewhat of a stranger to the current staff there, you might contact them on your own, just to be nice and get in touch. Obviously regular hosts like yoda do not need to run there for any tour he hosts, as it is known. He still did it in the past regardless, mostly to get server announces and news support.
Futhermore, thank Game and Eywa for the countless ways to have the rules read worse than they are. Replay sales and the inclusion of blacklisted users is a no go, another reason for first time hosters to approach the team first, just to make sure. Dunno about you, but for me it is a no brainer that I ask first if it's really important to me. The banner on top was always a demand by Yelloant, even though nobody really insists on it to be reinforced, or that your tour would be banned if ICCup is not featured in huge letters on top of your thread/banner.
As for sales go: One thing you mentioned was an idea to raise prizes for players by players, just like yoda did. Yoda is a greedy capitalist apparently. The other one, buying things in store to raise money to keep the page and all servers online, is apparently equally bad. If you think that's reason enough to hate something, hate Teamliquid (TL+). Hf in your narrow minded world.
I hope a person with your capabilities understands the point now. In case you did not, let's try it like this:

...really? There is no reason to act like a child lol, comparing teamliquid and iCCup in terms of marketing relationships is absolutely silly, TeamLiquid is alive and booming and has been for a very long time, iCCup on the other hand is dead most hours and inactive for a very good bit of time, so why would iCCup be trying to make money off of everything on there server when they are inactive to begin with?
Your argument is futile, and you are wrong....
TL+ is a great way to gift someone (one of your friends), or for yourself, this website is active... How silly would you feel spending $ on iCCup when there is so few users?

Just forgive these mediocre ppl and wish they will grow up. Wise words. @GGzerg and anyone else it may concern. Iccup has always upheld their tournament policies and been completely reasonable in working with whoever wants to run a tournament. @OP, your event is good willed. However, I would be wary of anyone donating money to you for "future events". At least if it went through the iccup PayPal account people would know where it was sitting. Regardless, I don't believe anyone should accept money for advance tournaments and instead take all donations and add them to current prizepools. Also, fans could always donate directly to the winning players PayPal themselves.

I don't even play BW often anymore and when I do, it is not on iCCup. I could care less that one of my accounts was banned, way to uphold a professional demeanor for iCCup face lol....

Iv spent some hours discussing some BW event with Knitex, unfourtantly i dont have time to help organize any event at the moment, but im happy to see some enthusiastic BW fan who spend time&money to make some BW event for the comunity. I encourage those who can to help Knitex out, i trust this guy and his intentions. I start off with donating 25 $ for the prizerpool.
Thank you for hosting this, i look forward to it

will you stick with five rounds of swiss system or do you plan to expand if more people show up? might be worth to explain it a bit, not many tours use it.

Which format would you think would be good? I'm kinda used to the swiss system from TCG and having the top players making it to the top cut(play-offs). This way, even if the player loses their first round they can keep playing other rounds.
Or go with round robin?
|
I like the idea of a foreign BW tournament, I hope you manage to find the help you need to make it happen.
I really don't understand the arguing above since as far as I know nobody is paid or has ever been paid to do what they do on iCCup. Same goes for tournaments like this, it is all out of the pockets of people who love the game and want to make it more fun for the players who really put some effort and time into becoming somewhat good at it. Or at least I think that goes for the BW section, correct me if I'm wrong.
And on the side note I notice that the bw server is getting a bit more active than before recently so nothing is pointless at the moment.
|
I'm having an easier time getting games at the B+ level than before. I think that BulgarianToss is right about the server's activity.
|
I would like you to try the swiss system because you play various opponents but don't necessarily drop out if you lose one because of a bad bracket or group. The only disadvantage I see, is that every player has to wait for all games per round to be finished before the next one can start. It would also be nice, if you would provide a map pack for your tournament to avoid using different versions of the maps.

First of all thanks for hosting a BW tournament.
I have a question regarding the format. You say its a "5 round swiss". What does that exactly mean? I always thought swiss means everyone plays everyone as it is done in football/soccer leagues etc. The tournament has 17 players registered, that would mean every player would need to play 16 games. 17*16 = 272 games. That can't possibly be right.
If "5 round swiss" means that a player just plays 5 games instead of 16, then who decides WHICH 5 players he faces?

It's 5 rounds, basically like this - if I understood it correctly:
Round 1: games are set randomly, no particular order behind it. With 17 players, one receives a walk over. Round 2: the winners play the winners, losers play the losers, someone receives a w.o., but no idea who (cause no opponent) Round 3: winners of Round 2 play Winners of Round 2, Losers of Round 2 winners of Round 2 with a loss in Round 1, losers of Round 2, losers of Round 2 Round 4 & 5: same procedure
Further restriction: You may only play one player once, not twice
Sounds complicated, but isn't. The general idea is that whoever wins plays someone who wins equally, or if you constantly lose, you only play other losers. People are matched per round in consideration of their previous records. In the end you have a table like:
1. 5 wins, 0 losses 2. 5 wins, 0 losses 3. 4 wins, 1 loss ... 17. 0 wins, 5 losses
It's a more forgiving format than randomly drawn groups, or eliminiation grids, as you always get a second chance.

Hm from your description it totally sounds like a normal bracket with losers bracket: Round 1: randomly generated bracket Round 2: losers dropped to losers bracket and play other losers there. Winner play winners in the main bracket Round 3: Those who have 1-1 stats play each other (those who dropped to losers bracket in round 2, but won first round and those who dropped to losers bracket in round 1 and won their game there). Those who have 2-0 play each other (players who stayed in main bracket). The only difference i see is that the players with two losses (0-2 stats) dont drop out completely but there is a "losers bracket of the losers bracket" and so on in further rounds. Apart from that its the same^^. But thanks for the explanation anyways

It will probably be in the channel op Team Sky Nite. If I can be on the PC at the time I would want to do check ins by BW but if not (I'll be on the road) I would like to have people check in using the chat box on the tSn website.
For now, I want to keep it as whoever shows up can play rather than schedule a match (at least not for this cup)
