To introduce myself quickly I'm n.stOp)Qikz and have enjoyed playing and watching Broodwar for the last 7 or 8 years. Without a doubt my favourite thing about Broodwar was the team rivalries fueled by proleague and the innovative and interesting games that spawned from it. I always loved the look of the comradery of especially SKT and more recently that which was displayed in Sonics Proleague which I hope one day comes back again.
The problem was just recently, outside of DRTL and the now seemingly dead CRTL there isn't really any teamleagues outside of the proper clanleague set up by iCCUP themselves for people to participate in and that's when I realised I wanted to do something about it. I can't offer a cash prize, but hopefully the incentive to play together as a team, make new allies and new rivalries will be enough to get people to sign up and play together.
The premise:
Most leagues for the community on teamliquid (even in SC2) especially seem to focus a lot on individual rank and individual player names and that's an idea I've never really held to heart. This and this alone gave me the idea to do this. It's all a bit sudden and I only really thought about it last night, but I was thinking about it and toying around with the idea so much it took me ages to go to sleep so hopefully it sounds as coherent as I want it to.
1. In this tournament, ranks are not a thing
There's no rank limit, anyone from any rank at any point in time can play and join any team. The idea is I want as many different people from varying skill levels to play with each other and find enjoyment out of the game in their own way. Having ranks as a buffer just leads to complications and they don't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things. It's all about improving as a player and a team member.
2. A varied map pool
Many leagues have fewer maps to make things easier and many of them use the same maps. I'm not saying this won't have the super standard maps, but I also want to mix up the map pool between "seasons" to get people playing as many different maps as possible. Playing FS and Python 24/7 must get boring some time right?
3. A rather long tournament spanning a months with different "seasons" as it were.
I really want to get the true feeling of comradery going with this and I want teams to stick together for a long time. It won't require your full commitment to play in this but id' be really nice if you could meet some more playing buddies/friends along the way. The seasons will be split up with short breaks in between but I somewhat want this to be a long term thing if I can make it that.
4. Teams names are of those who participated in the 2010-11 Proleague
This is where the Fantasy comes in. I want people to play under the banner of the team they watched and supported in PL. The reason for this is the next point.
5. Players account names will be those of a player from the team they're in to provide anonymity
Player anonymity allows for more interesting games. No longer do you see a name and think of whatever rank they are or who they are. I just want people to be able to play and never thinking about winning or losing, but thinking about improving their own play and their teamplay. Specific strategies can be developed over the season and players can be trained to snipe players, but not straight away. It'll have to develop like it developed in real proleague.
6. Bo7 or Bo5 format
As there'll hopefully be quite a few teams I'm imagining there won't be too many people per team but hopefully if we can get as many people playing each week as possible then I want to, if not we'll make it Bo5.
Now I think that's everything to do with the premise. For now I'll leave the specifics until we get enough sign ups, but one thing you must know for now is that it's of vital importance that you don't tell anyone the ID you'll be using inside the teamleague unless you already know they're in your team!

Now a big issue could arise in that we don't have enough players to fill all the teams and if the worse comes to the worst then I'll have to chop off some teams which is highlly likely, but I'm hoping as there's no rank restrictions and no real reason not to play that we'll get a bunch of sign ups!

Bo5 for sets or for the entire clan war? I hated the idea of having only Bo1 sets in clan wars, that's so non-saying. Also, don't get why Korean names have to be used. Other than that, good luck.

Btw, you might wanna consider changing the name of this as people might confuse it (as I initially did) with Fantasy sports.
I suggest changing the name to "Real Fantasy Teamleague" so there's no confusion.

How will arranging PP's work though? Won't the game be up when we need to PM our opponent and request an earlier/later play date/time? Captains will have to proxy PP's? sounds like it might be trouble.

I think that everybody signing up should have to name a list of say 3 teams that they would like to join since the majority of players support SKT or KT. It'll be easier for you to move people to a second choice team when you end up with 10-20 players signing up for SKT and only 1-2 for teams like Fox.

I've not finalised pretty much anything yet, but the captains job is to organise your team and whos playing and what not. You'd still be playing if you want to, but it's more just so one player in a team is sort of the elected spokesperson of the team.
In terms of PP organising Minsc the idea would be that you could contact the other teams captain directly and they'd be active enough to speak to the player on their team for you and pass the information back. Although once again I'm completely open to all suggestions and help anyones willing to throw my way since this isn't going to be easy.

Yup, what Sero said at the bottom. It'd be best if you wait until all the team has joined then when you're in contact with each other you can discuss it so people don't take the ids other people want :p

I don't understand, I thought we were registering under smurf and you were going to put us in a roster so nobody knows who anyone is. However, everyone is saying their ID/team so why not just use regular ID?

I still want to get people to use the smurf idea, it's just you know who's on what team if they posted in the thread (although there's still people singing up through PM like I wanted them to initially), you just won't know who you're going to be playing week on week so there's still some form of anonymity.

We currently have 5 full teams of 5, one that's incredibly close to finish and two without any players so i'll more than likely remove KHAN and SOUL and maybe add them in if we get more sign ups. I'd like to obviously have more than 5 per team, but currently it's slowed down so I'll give it another few days then see what to do from there.
Barring a complete disaster however this should start sometime this month with the teams we have.

Thankfully most people gave either one team, or two teams that they'd like to join so I've ended up doing it at sort of a first come first serve basis on the teams. As you got added to my list depending on what your teams were you got put on one. The people who didn't give a team I used a random number generator to put them on teams that didn't have enough players.
There's very few people who've signed up who I actually know their skill and they mostly gave teams they wanted to join so personal bias never came into anything other than placing myself on the team I wanted to join as I was the first person to be added to my list.
There's a very slight chance that one team might dominate but since I don't actually know the skill levels of the majority of players I can't say for sure or not, we'll just have to see what happens. I was hoping that we'd get enough players that teams would organise themselves not to play their best players every single week if they have a stacked team, but of course that relies on me having to trust people not to be assholes, but from my experience the TL community, especially those still playing BW seems rather friendly..
I can't really add anything else other than we're still missing a few people to fill out the teams and we're missing two complete teams and at least 4 from another. So for now all I can really do is see how it goes. Now we're at the final stretch of initial sign ups I'll start getting the main OP ready in the hope that it can start pretty soon. I said before but my main purpose for doing this is to give people a chance to play together in a team environment so if that works as I want it to, then that's a success for me. :>

No playing and learning other maps is awful. Every tourney ever that gets hosted these days tries to throw in all sorts of weird maps that no one ever practices. It's super annoying. It would be nice to have for once a tourney that reflects what we actually get to work with.

It would be nice to see some underused maps in this league since it's a big mix of skill levels and whatnot. Even dropping some of the go-to non-FS tourney maps like Desti and Outsider in favour of others would be nice imo.

Well it is a proleague set-up right? Which means even if FS is there, it's not like every game is on it anyways. I know for myself, while I like learning a specific build for a non-standard map like Mist, it is nice to also have a completely standard map like FS or relatively standard like CB. So that you can have a week where you can practice laddering rather than just with practice partners.

KHAN currently has 0 players and FOX is on 1. I'm going to PM the person on FOX to see if they want to join another team until (if) we get more players and then hopefully we can get this started the end of this week. Now we can either do Bo3 per week or Bo5, but Bo5 requires that every member of every team be avaliable to play once every week and a half (the deadline'll be fair to account for timezones and life stuff). What do you guys want to do?

I guess this is probably the best idea, it's not too hard to do.
Sadly I completely forgot the flag thing even existed, so that''s my bad. I'd prefer after this post if you move over to the main OP but it probably won't start for about 3 weeks to allow everyone to get incontact with everyone else and get all their accounts sorted.
